They say everything is fair in love and war, but Caleb Love might beg to differ. The Arizona guard stepped to the free-throw line in Newark, New Jersey, ready to capitalize on a foul by Duke’s Kon Kneuppel. But under the spotlight, Love’s UNC colors of the past two years had eclipsed his Wildcats avatar. He sank the first shot with ease. Then, like clockwork, the Cameron Crazies struck.
“Deja Kelly! Deja Kelly!”
The chants weren’t just noise—they were a blade, twisting in a wound Love thought had healed. Duke fans don’t just heckle; they do their homework. This time, the Crazies had dug up the love triangle rumor from Love’s UNC days, one that allegedly involved his former Tar Heel teammate RJ Davis and North Carolina women’s basketball star Deja Kelly. Though Love and Davis have both denied any rift, the internet never forgets. And when the Crazies sense weakness, they pounce.

It escalated to such a level that Caleb’s former team, Duke’s rival, UNC’s official X account, wasted no time mocking the irony of it all: “Duke fans: UNC fans are weird for cheering for Caleb Love, he left two years ago. Also Duke fans: chanting Deja Kelly at him.” Brutal.
One spectator summed it up best: “Duke student section chanting Deja Kelly when Love at the free-throw line. Gotta love it.” And let’s be real—if today’s Cameron Crazies cheer sheet leaks, Deja Kelly’s name is probably highlighted, underlined, and in bold. This isn’t the first time the Crazies have gone for the jugular.

They’ve built a legacy of ruthless heckling, their taunts often feeling more like a roast battle than simple jeering. Lehigh player in goggles and knee-high socks? “Urkel! Urkel!” Shaquille O’Neal visiting Cameron? Relentless chants rained down. Grant Hill’s parents in the stands? The Crazies begged them to “Have one more kid.” Wake Forest’s 5’3” Muggsy Bogues? “Webster! Webster!” An Australian player from the national team? “Shrimp on the Barbie!” No history is too sacred, no rumor too absurd.

For Caleb Love, transferring to Arizona was supposed to be a fresh start. But when you step into Cameron Indoor, your past follows you. And the Crazies? They make sure you never forget it.
From Tar Heel to Wildcat: Duke’s Crazies Won’t Let Caleb Love Escape His UNC Past
Love’s transfer from UNC to Arizona in 2023 sent shockwaves through the sport. Officially, it was about growth, a new opportunity. But behind the scenes, whispers of friction with RJ Davis refused to die. And Duke’s student section? They’d been sharpening their knives for this moment since last year.

Back in February 2023, the Crazies had already planted the seeds of chaos during a Duke-UNC showdown, waving a chant sheet referencing Love’s alleged involvement with Davis’ girlfriend. According to KentSports on TikTok, the sheet even claimed Davis refused to sit next to Love in class.

Publicly, both players laughed it off. Love hit social media with, “laughing at the BS😂 we locked 4 🤞🏽@ariidavis_” while Davis doubled down, adding, “Nah fr tho saying anything😂. We good over here.” Even college sports analyst Jack McGuire backed them up, calling the entire story “major cap.”
But in sports, perception trumps reality.
When UNC crashed and burned, missing the NCAA Tournament, Love became the scapegoat. Never mind the fact that he helped carry the Tar Heels to the 2022 national championship game—fans needed someone to blame. And when RJ Davis and Armando Bacot announced they were running it back, the message was clear: Love’s time in Chapel Hill was over.

So he hit reset, landing at Arizona with two years of eligibility left. “I’ve taken some time with my family to re-evaluate what’s best for me to continue to grow as a player, and I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my journey,” he explained. In Tucson, he’s thriving.
But to Duke fans, Caleb Love will always be a Tar Heel. And as long as the Deja Kelly chants keep echoing in arenas, his UNC exit will never be just another page in the past—it’ll be the hook to a story that refuses to end.
