Darryn Peterson is a name on the rise. And he has been pushed further into the spotlight by his record-breaking NIL contract with Adidas, for a multi-year shoe deal. With this, Peterson has become the first high-school athlete to sign a NIL deal with Adidas.

The 16-year-old is a junior high school student currently enrolled at Huntington Prep in West Virginia, where he plays the position of a shooting guard for the school basketball team. Peterson comes from a line of skilled athletes; his father played basketball in school and college, and his brother is also an accomplished football player. Darryn Peterson has laid his claim in the high-school basketball scene; the 6-foot-5 guard has already scored over 1,000 points in just two seasons at CVCA. During his freshman year, he was the only freshman to be named to the All-Ohio Division II first team despite missing the season’s first few games because of a foot injury.

As a sophomore, Peterson averaged 31 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.3 assists for the Division II district runners-up Royals (18-7). Currently, his NIL value stands at $269k and this is expected to only grow higher following his massive deal with Adidas. He is ranked number 22 in the high school basketball NIL rankings and already has offers from top colleges like Akron, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, and Cleveland State.

FIBA gold medalist

As a member of the US Under 16 boys basketball team, Peterson took home a gold medal from the FIBA Americas championship in Merida, Mexico, in June this year. He averaged 16.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in the tournament.

In addition to being named the Division II Northeast Inland District Player of the Year and a finalist for the Ohio Mr. Basketball award, Darryn Peterson was also named the first-team All-Ohio Division II for the second consecutive year.
