As the college basketball season moves forward, the news circle is dazzling with the buzz of upcoming talents making their mark in high school. One such case is that of Kira Reynolds, who has committed to play for the Purdue Boilermakers next season. Because of her on-court dominance in high school, Reynolds is in line to win the most prestigious individual honor, the Miss Indiana Basketball Award. Last year, she decided to play for Purdue, giving the Boilermakers 2025 recruiting class a big push.

“I believe Kira can play Kira on the wing by the time she graduates. She is that skilled offensively and defensively,” said Purdue’s recruiting coordinator and assistant coach Mark Stephens. Her versatility, strength, and athleticism on offense caught Stephens’ attention. So let’s explore what her journey has been like so far.

Basketball is a topic of discussion within the Reynolds household, as the whole family—Kira Reynolds’ father, mother, brother, and two sisters—are associated with the game. Her father, Steve, played collegiate basketball for Western Michigan University.

Both of her parents played overseas, while her brother Steven ranks at #74 in the 247Sports rankings for the Class of 2026 after he made waves with a career-high 50-point performance.

Her sisters Amiyah and Mila are already members of the Purdue Boilermakers, whom Kira Reynolds will join next season. However, her journey in high school basketball has been nothing less than phenomenal.

The 6-foot-4 forward freshman at South Bend Washington High School averaged 10.2 points, 10 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 4.7 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. She was ranked in the top 38 players, nationally, and 3rd in Indiana for her average of 4.7 blocks per game.

As a sophomore, she again put out a double-double average of 16.1 points, and 12 rebounds, alongside 2.8 assists, 5.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. That season, her 5.8 blocks per game ranked at #24, nationally. That season, she led her team to a 27-1 record while winning the State Championship title.

In her junior season, Reynolds remained consistent with her double-double average and put out 16.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Her 6.5 blocks per game ranked #1 in Indiana and #14 nationally. She led the school to the semi-state round of the 2023 IHSAA Tournament. Moreover, her team put out a 19-5 record and won another sectional title.

However, she has taken her game to a different level this season.

This 2024-25 season, Reynolds is playing as a senior. Through 16 games so far, Reynolds has been averaging 16.6 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 6.5 blocks, and 3.5 steals per game. Her average of 6.5 blocks per game is ranked #8 nationally.

So far, she has registered 9 straight double-doubles out of the 12 double-doubles she has posted. However, her latest feat is one of those rare events that could only be true in video games. The high school senior forward posted an outstanding stat line of 14 points, 18 rebounds, 12 assists, 11 steals, and 10 blocks in an 85-12 win against New Prairie.

Last month, Reynolds became the first player in the history of her high school program to amass 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 blocks, and 300 assists in her career. Now, with only six games remaining in the regular season, Reynolds has led her team to a 14-1 record.

However, basketball isn’t the only sport that has caught Reynolds’ attention. Kira Reynolds played high school softball for a season when she was a freshman. After that, she switched to volleyball, which she continued to play during her sophomore and junior years, all while playing basketball the whole time.

Now, heading toward an outstanding senior year in high school, Kira Reynolds is expected to make a huge impact on the Boilermakers’ roster as she embarks on her collegiate journey next season.
