A player who started with an offensive number of 9.1 points per game to be a solid defensive player: That’s how 23-year-old Gabbie Marshall does it for The Iowa Hawkeyes. She also became the first Iowa women’s basketball player to record 200 3-pointers and 200 steals in a career. The Cincinnati, Ohio native, will conclude her basketball career at the end of the 2024 season.

She graduated from Cincinnati’s Mount Notre Dame High School and enrolled in Pre-Medical Studies at the University of Iowa in 2019. She plans to finish the Degree in Occupational Therapy Program after the season ends. Here’s all you need to know about her!

Gabbie helped lead Mt. Notre Dame in capturing a seventh Ohio state championship, tying for the most state titles in girls’ basketball in Ohio High School Athletic Association history. Gabbie was second in the league in scoring, averaging about 14 points a game for the GGCL champs. She is also undefeated 8-0 in league play, SWO District champs, Regional champs, and 27-2 Ohio state champs. Gabbie was part of the Cougars’ Ohio state championship team her sophomore year and the district championship team her junior year. She averaged 16 points a game, 2nd in the league overall.

Gabbie Marshall’s parents, Ernest and Marne, used to play basketball when they were young. Ernest reportedly played four years of college basketball for the Bellarmine University Knights. Marne played for a lone season at Aquinas College (via HawkeyeSports.com). No other information is available regarding her career. Thus, Gabbie has basketball in her blood. She has three brothers, one elder, and two younger ones.

Five years in with the Hawkeyes, she has become a lot more popular. She is the 44th Hawkeye women’s basketball player to record 1,000 career points. So, is it surprising that she has more than 91k followers on Instagram?

Additionally, the senior guard is dating Spencer Touro, an Iowa graduate. Touro is a personal trainer at West Branch, Iowa, per his Instagram bio, and as per his LinkedIn, he has a degree in Sports. In December, they celebrated their one-year anniversary and Gabbie wrote on Instagram, “1 year with the most selfless, loving and hardworking guy I know. Thank you for making me the happiest girl in the world & pushing me to become the best version of myself every single day. I love you!!

Gabbie Marshall has grown in her final year

Marshall has started in all 33 games in the 2023-24 season. She has 6.1 points per game and 1.8 assists per game. Her offensive numbers may have gone down but her role in the team has grown. She has played over 161 games over her 5-year career, also completing 1000 career points in the process.

The guard has partnered with Casey’s Pizza through her NIL partnership, helping in Casey’s annual campaign: Feeding America – the largest hunger relief organization in the United States. She also has an affiliate link with Raygun, a printing, design, and clothing company. She has also been featured on the SLAM magazine cover alongside teammates Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin.

My mentality this year is to focus on my teammates. Just making the most of every opportunity that I get, all the memories that we’re making. I think it’s really bittersweet,” she spoke to the media. Gabbie Marshall continued about how she was trying to soak in all the emotions and memories on and off the court. “I think in my other years I’ve just focused on improving in basketball, which I’m still doing but at the same time, I know I’m nearing the end of my basketball career forever. I’m just trying to soak in all the memories off and on the court.

It seems she is ready to leave her basketball career behind and focus on her degree. Whatever her decision might be, it definitely has been an impressive career.
