Described as “The player with the heart of a giant,” Dyaisha Fair means a lot to her Orange sisters. She became the third all-time NCAA Division I women’s basketball career scoring leader, changed the image of Syracuse, and participated in the 3-point challenge during the Final Four weekend. However, Dyaisha Fair did not get the recognition her counterpart Caitlin Clark did. Nevertheless, the talented young star is on her way to the WNBA to create a new reflection of her over again. But who is this No. 10 projected pick for the WNBA draft?

Hailing from Rochester, New York, Dyaisha Fair has always been a standout performer. As a part of Edison Tech High School, the 5-ft-5, despite a short height, displayed stellar offensive prowess. She averaged a whopping 33.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists as a senior. These dazzling numbers brought her multiple titles. These were the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year, Ronald-McDonald All-Star Team, and 2018 New York State Sportswriters Association All-State Team honorable mention. She even set many records and inked her name as school and sectional scoring and 3-point leader.

Her next move to Buffalo Bulls too saw many successes. As a player who added 22.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.8 steals per game, she swept away the MAC All-Freshman team. She also got MAC Newcomer of the Year and is a 3× First-team All-MAC. After three seasons with the Bulls, Fair chose to stay with her coach Felisha Legette Jack, who too was making a move. As a result, both became a part of the Syracuse family.

The Orange got many other players along with the two new members, and the impact was quite influential. Keeping up with her immaculate performance, the 19.9 ppg averaging athlete joined Caitlin Clark as the only second active WBB player to reach the mark of 2500+ points. Hence, there is no denying why she is projected as a first-round pick this year. The fact also makes her the only Syracuse player to be invited to the WNBA draft event.

Dyaisha Fair as a WNBA prospect

Entering the 2024 WNBA draft, Dyaisha stands third in the all-time career scoring list. In her five years as a college basketball player, she accumulated 3,403 points, leaving Kelsey Mitchell behind. Her 8th stand in the nation for average scoring is also an attractive addition to the professional league. Hence, she stands at the 10th position in ESPN’s latest WNBA mock draft. She is paired with the Connecticut Sun.

While she did not get much attention for a long time for any WNBA coach, she is still optimistic. She told AP, “I know I’m capable of playing in that league or anywhere in the world. It’s just who’s going to be willing to take that chance on me?”

The Sun is coming down from a decently successful season. They grabbed the second spot in the Eastern Conference regular season with a 27-13 record. Connecticut lost in the playoffs semifinals against the giant Liberty. They are in the top 5 ranks in offensive fronts and reign at the top two for defense. Hence, it will really come down to whether Connecticut believes Dyaisha Fair is going to be an addition to their team or not.
