The NBA draft 2024 is close. While most of the college basketball players are going to stand in queues, a few of them will get a deal of their lifetimes. Going professional will mean more money, better quality of play, and among others more popularity. One such player who is expected to shine in the coming draft is the Baylor Scheierman. While Scheierman didn’t leave an alpha impression in his college career, he was one of those players who adjusted his play to the game requirements and always gave his best for the team.
Therefore, the 23-year-old is projected to be drafted as the number 32nd pick by the Utah Jazz via the Wizards. Today, let’s take a look at his life and career.

Scheierman was born on September 26, 2000, in Hastings, Nebraska. He has two elder sisters and one younger sister and a brother. His father used to ply his trade as a baseball player at Hastings College.
The love for sports was inherited by Scheierman who became a multi-sport athlete. As a school student, Scheierman played basketball, football, baseball, and golf. In football, he gave his services as a quarterback and threw a stunning 3,942 yards. Plus, he also made a state record with 59 touchdowns as a senior. Therefore, Scheierman fared exceptionally well in football.

He attended the Aurora High School and had a brilliant tally in basketball. Scheierman averaged a decent 16 points per game with 6 rebounds per contest during his junior year. Plus, he also had 6 assists per outing during that season. This, showed his ability to transform from a scorer to a second fiddle with quite ease when the situation demanded.
During his senior year, he led his team to a state tournament. He averaged a whopping 22.1 points per contest with 9.8 rebounds per match and 6.5 assists per outing. With this, he had become a mainstay for his school team. In 2017 during the winters he announced his decision to commit to the South Dakota State team because of the light and compassionate environment in the squad. However, that was to change soon.
Baylor Scheierman’s South Dakota phase
Scheierman represented the South Dakota State from the 2019 to 2021 season. During his first year, he didn’t get much playing time averaging only 6 points per contest. Apart from that he had 4.7 rebounds per game with 2.2 assists per contest. He only started in 3 of the 32 games he played during his freshman year. Plus, he only plied his trade for 20.2 minutes per outing.
During his next year, Scheierman soused 15.4 points per contest with 9.2 rebounds per match and 4 assists per game. Therefore, his responsibilities increased within the team and he took it in good stride always standing tall whenever the situation demanded. One of his most memorable games that season was during the Summit League Championship semi-finals against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles when he decimated 28 points in a harrowing loss to them.
During his third year, the Hastings-born sloshed 16.2 points per game with 7.8 rebounds per match and 4.5 assists per contest. His best performance of 26 points once again came against the Oral Roberts that season. However, Scheierman transferred to the Creighton Bluejays at the end of the season.
Baylor Scheierman’s Creighton Bluejays time
His move could have resulted from him trying to develop into an NBA player and having time to share the locker room with better ballers and clashing against more prominent teams. “He wants someone who is going to coach him hard and develop him to become an NBA player, whether that’s this year or next year. He wants to play with other really good players, because that unlocks him,” his agent Austin Walton remarked of his transfer, as per The Athletic.
Scheierman then committed with the Creighton Bluejays while remaining in the NBA draft in 2022. However, later that year he withdrew from the draft. He faced a little difficulty while adjusting to the level of basketball of the Bluejays in his first year with them as he averaged a decent 12.8 points per game with 8.3 rebounds per match. His shining moment came in that season when he dropped an exceptional 21 points against the Princeton Tigers during a Sweet 16 win.
The next year he assumed a mainstay role when he throttled 18.5 points per game with 9 rebounds per match and 3.9 assists per contest. He took his team to the Sweet 16 where they were eliminated by the Tennessee Volunteers as he smoked 25 points in that game, and then he came forward to declare for the draft.
