Over the years, whispers on social media and niche forums have questioned whether Azzi Fudd was adopted or raised in foster care. Some speculated that her last name didn’t match her biological roots. Others assumed that because her family adopted children, perhaps Azzi herself was adopted too. But here’s the truth.
Azzi grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, in a household that doesn’t just like basketball – it lives, breathes, eats, and dreams it. Her parents didn’t just dabble in the sport. This game gave them everything: support, purpose, and a whole lifestyle. Amid online speculation and TikTok theories, there is a question out there: Is Azzi’s biological father someone else?

Azzi Fudd’s biological father: Everything to know about Tim Fudd
The answer is no. Azzi was born to Katie and Tim Fudd on November 11, 2002, and they’ve been her biggest supporters since day one. And they have had the most amazing Love-and-Basketball kinda love story. The couple met while coaching at The Potomac School, and their chemistry was pure hoops magic.
It all began with their shared love for this game of basketball, and while the couple’s story is straight out of a sports romance story, the funniest yet interesting has to be their wedding lore. You know, they got married on a basketball court. Why? Because they needed a venue fast, and since Katie grew up Catholic and they were already renting St. Joseph’s Catholic School gym for training, they figured, why not just get married there? The gym cost was $35 an hour.

It was a perfect deal and what could have been better than a place that had been so close to both of their hearts? But there was one rule – no heels allowed on the hardwood. So the wedding invite literally read: “To show support of this union, the bride and groom ask that you wear athletic shoes to the wedding.” Iconic, right? Azzi, just three years old at the time, witnessed the union.

Building upon their shared love for basketball, Katie and Tim expanded their family, embracing four children, including two adopted sons, with one of them continuing the family legacy, wearing the jersey with the name of her mother’s favorite player. As we see Fudd growing into such an amazing player, it’s clear the game’s always been in her blood—she really is a reflection of her parents.
Azzi Fudd’s mother: What does she do?
If you’ve ever wondered where Azzi Fudd gets her hoop instincts from, look no further than her parents. Her mom, Katie Fudd (formerly Smrcka-Duffy), was a top-notch baller back in the day. She kicked things off as ACC Rookie of the Year at NC State before transferring to Georgetown, where she became the second all-time leading scorer in program history.

Katie was a walking bucket—dropping 20 points a game in her sophomore season alone—and she made history as the first Hoya drafted into the WNBA by the Sacramento Monarchs. Injuries, including a torn ACL, unfortunately cut her pro career short. But hoop dreams didn’t end there. She pivoted to coaching and motherhood, naming her daughter after Olympic gold medalist. Katie’s love for the game never faded. It just got passed down to Azzi.

She has been there every step of the way—coaching, guiding, and cheering on her daughter’s rise. If there’s been one constant in Azzi’s journey, it’s her mom. And then there’s dad. A baller himself, Tim played at American University, where he once averaged 19 points and nearly 7 boards a game. Now, he’s in the stands at every game, rocking Azzi’s jersey and yelling the loudest. We love to see it.
