“We’re not doing anything unique. We not doing anything magical. We’re just working really hard and trying to make sure we have the right people in our program to do that,” said Todd Golden in the aftermath of the team’s win against Texas Tech. With the Florida Gators having made the Final Four for the first time since 2014, and the first time during his tenure with the team, the coach wants to rely on efficient players during the upcoming game against the Auburn Tigers. One player Golden will be relying on is Will Richard. After all, as the Orlando Sentinel highlighted, “Guard Will Richard has been Gators ol’ reliable since Day 1”. Having started in 106 games for the team after transferring from the Belmont Bruins, Richard has continued developing a game rooted in long-range shooting. In Golden’s own words, “He has not gotten the credit he deserves in terms of how much he’s improved since he’s been here”.

Fans watched and would have grown to admire Will Richard after his 15-point performances against the UConn Huskies and the Maryland Terrapins. The attention span on him would be more at this stage than at any other point of the March Madness series. Therefore, there is no better time than now to get to know more about the 22-year-old star.

Who is Will Richard’s father? Was he a basketball player?

According to reports, Will Richard was born in Fairburn, Georgia, on Dec 24th, 2002, to Helen and Al Richards. Both of the basketball player’s parents are American Nationals.

In the case of several basketball players like Jaden Akins, basketball was a family trait within the parents too. However, Will Richard’s father was not a basketball player. Rather, he generated an interest in football during his college days. Al Richards served as a defensive lineman at Clemson University during his time as a member of the Class of 1988. He was named SuperPrep Magazine’s defensive Player-of-the-Year in the Mid-Atlantic region. The same publication also chose him to their All-American and All-Mid-Atlantic teams. Al was a standout performer for the Sandlappers in the 1987 Shrine Bowl. He recorded 89 tackles, 8 fumble recoveries, and a memorable 9 blocked punts as a senior. According to reports, Al also ran the 40 in 4.7 seconds, and bench pressed about 295 pounds.

Probably being inspired by his father, Will Richard also took up football at first. As highlighted by the Florida Gators’ official page, however, Will did not choose to pursue the sport beyond the 7th grade due to weight issues. Fortunately, basketball pulled the player towards it, and his fate was sealed.

Who is Will Richard’s mother? What does she do?

Will Richard’s mother, Helen, is a private individual. Due to this, there isn’t much information available about her in the public domain.

However, her influence on Will’s athletic journey is evident. Helen played a pivotal role during Will’s formative years, especially during his time at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia. She was present during significant moments, such as when Will decided to focus solely on basketball after a brief stint in middle school football. Reflecting on a particular seventh-grade football game, Helen remarked, “It was like watching him in slow motion. After that, he was pretty much done.”

What is Will Richard’s parents’ nationality?

According to reports, both of Will Richard’s parents are American Nationals. Therefore, this makes his Nationality American too.

The Florida Gators are set to face Auburn on Saturday. This gives plenty of time for Will Richard to work on his shooting and overall playmaking skills. After all, having averaged 13.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists during the recent college season, the Final Four game should not be the time that Will Richard screws things up.
