Despite losing their Sweet 16 encounter against LSU, there is no denying that the team had a mix of a dynamic and skillful roster. The younger daughter of Derek Osborne and Chaka Ferrell, Charisma, was born on June 3, 2001, in Fontana, California. Being considered a gift of God, her mother Chaka thought it appropriate to name her Charisma. Following this, Charisma showed an early interest in music and used to play the trumpet earlier. However, after her parents’ separation, she moved to LA with her father, Derek. Here she spent her High School days at Windward School where she developed an interest in the sport. Currently, her mother lives in Moreno Valley with Charisma’s stepfather, Damon Ferrell. She works as a helper in the local community.

Anyhow, the credit for the basketball talent that the 5 ft 9 in guard has should be given to her father. He is the one who developed an aptitude for the game inside Charisma and helped her grow. As per some sources, he would often spend a large amount of his time with her in the gym trying to hone her skills to perfection.

Consequently, these basketball practice sessions, which sometimes would go till 2 AM, came in handy as she led Windward to the Open Division state championship. In addition to this, she was also named California Ms. Basketball and was a five-star recruit by ESPN.

Evidently, it is not just Charisma’s parents who have had an impact on her game. Coming face-to-face with the great Kobe Bryant has helped Osborne channel her inner Black Mamba. We will have to wait and see how this mentality guides her in the upcoming days as she is projected to be drafted by the New York Liberty with the 11th pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
