Athletic genes usually last for generations, and that’s the case with Ohio State’s Jacy Sheldon. She was a significant member of the Buckeyes family, making their way through the 2024 Big Dance. The No. 4 was also the defensive strength of Ohio State in 2023, back when they reached the Elite Eight. Moving into this year’s WNBA draft to be potentially picked by the Washington Mystics, the five-star recruit from Dublin, Coffman, has grabbed some attention. So, where does this stellar 5-foot-10 athlete hail from, and who are her parents?

Jacy Sheldon was born in Ohio, to Duane and Laura Sheldon. The family is equipped with athletes, as Duane Sheldon was a hooper for the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets of Division III. Furthermore, he continued his passion for sports, becoming a coach. Later, he transitioned into the position of athletic director at Dublin Coffman High School. Her mother, Laura, was also an athlete at Baldwin Wallace who participated in track and field contests.

Apart from her parents, Sheldon’s younger brother, Ajay, is also a hooper. He is a sophomore point guard for the Ohio Bobcats’ men’s basketball team. While these two have followed their parents’ footsteps right into sports teams of their schools, the youngest of the Sheldon bunch is still the heartbeat of this family.

Not much is known about this little bird, Emma Sheldon, who has been fighting the hurdles of Down syndrome. Despite her health challenges, Emma continues to support and motivate her older siblings. With her next steps already marked, Jacy is now ready for her upcoming games.

Sheldon can be an effective addition to any team. In fact, she is one of the reasons why the Buckeyes won the regular season this year and tied the same last year. Jacy Sheldon contributed 17.8 points on 50.5-37.3-85.8 splits, with 3.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.9 steals this season. Hence, she might be a trouble at both ends for her next team, especially if she gets to be on the Mystics roster, where she will have more help on a fairly balanced team. Washington boasts Ariel Atkins and Brittney Sykes on their backcourt, and at the same time, Elena Delle Donne and Queen Egbo dominate the frontcourt.

As a fifth-year senior with the Buckeyes, Jacy Sheldon has earned Second-team All-American (AP), Second-team All-American (USBWA), First-team All-Big Ten, and Big Ten All-Defensive Team. There is no argument that she will continue to bring more titles and honors for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA if they draft her.
