With Aubrey Griffin joining the wounded pack, the University of Connecticut Huskies look in trouble. Previously, Paige Bueckers’ ACL injury forced her to miss the season. But after his return, Bueckers has been a constant source of support for Azzi Fudd since her season-ending injury. And now, she’s throwing her weight behind another grounded Husky.

ACL tears are UConn’s constant source of pain. The squad has surely faced difficulties as a result of these injuries because they greatly depend on the abilities and contributions of their core players. Notwithstanding these losses, UConn has demonstrated resiliency in the past and has a strong group of gifted players on its roster who can step up to cover for Fudd and Griffin.

Bueckers Backs Her Fellow Husky

In a game against Creighton, Griffin, a senior at UConn, suffered an injury that ended her season, making her the fourth player to face the fate. Griffin caught her left knee midair and tumbled hard to the floor.

For the remainder of the game, she did not go back to the bench. After a 4-3 start, UConn’s injuries limited them to nine players, including three forwards, for their victory over Georgetown on Sunday. The remaining Connecticut players rose to the occasion and outperformed Georgetown despite the loss.

The team’s ability to bounce back from setbacks and modify tactics to account for the loss of important players demonstrated its tenacity and versatility. Paige Bueckers took to the Instagram stories to show her heartfelt support to her teammate as she wrote “Godspeed Aub Dawg we got you.”

Inevitable space of Aubrey Griffin

A prior ankle and back injury caused the 6-foot-1 fifth-year student to miss the 2021–22 season (her true junior year). She subsequently had back surgery to finish the season. An ACL tear sustained during her second year of high school is another injury history she has. Griffin had a career-high 11.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, 44 assists per game, and 50 steals last season while starting 30 of 35 games.

This year, as the team’s outstanding go-to sixth player, she was headed for another stellar campaign. Averaging 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, Griffin was a valuable member of the 13th-ranked Huskies’ bench unit.
