The St. John’s Red Storm are having a hard time. With a 14-12 regular season record and a 6-9 tally, they are placed at the ninth spot in the Big East. When the Rick Pitino-coached team took the floor on Sunday night, they faced yet another humiliating loss against Seton Hall. While the Pirates scored 68, the Red Storm could only score 62. With many questions rising about Seton Hall’s abilities, their head coach has now chimed in.
Rick Pitino, during the post-match press conference, couldn’t control his anger and lashed out at the team. The loss had him contemplating on a few things including the athleticism of his players. The 71-year-old didn’t mince any words in giving a comprehensive analysis of his team.

“We are so non-athletic that we can’t guard anybody without fouling… And really it’s not about losing. Even winning, when I watch the film, I see unathletic plays, I see people that don’t handle the ball, that are just interested in taking quick shots. It’s been a disappointing year,” Pitino exclaimed.
St. John’s was leading at halftime by a margin of 41-29 and looked as if they would decimate the Pirates. But Seton Hall came back strongly in the next half as the Red Storm found it difficult to basket points during the first 12 minutes.
As St. John’s could only score 4 points, the lead came to an end, with Seton Hall surprisingly edging past their opponents. This was not the first time that the St. John’s combusted rather instantaneously. Similarly, they were previously beaten by the Providence. During the encounter, the Red Storm were leading at halftime with a 38-33 margin against the Friars, who played spoilsport to Pitino’s plans by edging past his team with a 75-72 margin.

A repeat of the same show on Sunday perhaps took on the nerves of Pitino. This also marked their third loss in a row, and now the St. John’s don’t have much time to mend their actions.
What’s next for St. John’s?
Pitino’s team is left with only five games in the regular season before the commencement of the conference tournament. These games will decide if they will get a chance to prove their worth in the NCAA tournament. Meanwhile, Pitino looked exasperated as he admitted “If I said I was disappointed, that would be the understatement of the year.”

Hopefully, Rick Pitino, who is in his first year with the Red Storm, will sort out the issues soon and help them give their best in the remaining matches.
