Fouls are a common practice in basketball. But in a recent ODU vs. JMU matchup, there was one instance where a flagrant foul from an Old Dominion player nearly caused a severe injury to the Duke center. Even in a moral game, instances such as these question the basic sportsmanship and ethics of the sport.

On Saturday afternoon, the Old Dominion Monarchs fell to the Duke by a margin of 72-64. With this recent loss, ODU’s overall performance for the season now stands at 12 wins and 5 losses, with a conference record of 4 wins and 3 losses in Sun Belt play.

At a crucial moment in the match, Simone Cunningham, representing ODU, executed a strategic maneuver by pulling Kozlova, a 6’4 center from Duke. She was hurt, fell to the ground, and screamed in pain, as per the medical reports. She nearly dislocated an elbow. The referee gave Cunningham a double intentional foul, which was her fourth in the game.

Hevynne Bristow, in the highly anticipated match of Royal rivalry, showcased her skills by scoring a remarkable career-high of 20 points, outperforming all other players, and leading the James Madison women’s basketball team to a victorious 72-64 win over Old Dominion at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the fourth quarter fast approaching, James Madison manages to establish a comfortable 10-point lead of 61-51, as indicated by the score at the 7:12 mark. However, ODU wastes no time and swiftly counters with an unstoppable 6-0 run, leaving JMU no choice but to take a timeout. Even though they were under pressure, the Dukes were able to increase their lead to 65-57 by making successful free throws at the 4:49 mark.
