The UConn Huskies should consider themselves very unlucky when it comes to injuries. The 11-time NCAA champions have had their fair share of injury-driven setbacks in the last few years. Previously, multiple injuries forced their star point guard Paige Beuckers to miss a significant part of her career. Now, UConn is dealing with Azzi Fudd’s absence due to her torn right ACL.
Just as they were looking to regroup from these injuries and have their campaign back on track, another injury scare has come back to haunt them in their clash against Creighton Bluejays.

The Huskies were heading towards another comfortable win leading the Bluejays 63-38. With just under 3 minutes left in the third quarter, Creighton’s No.32 MaKayla Miller snuck through the UConn’s defenses and scored. However, senior guard Aubrey Griffin took a nasty fall while trying to prevent those 2 points from happening. Immediately after, she was seen on the floor holding on to her knee in agony and pain. Following this, she was quickly surrounded by her teammates. Consequently, UConn’s athletic trainer Janelle Francisco ran towards the court to further evaluate the situation.
After this, the Huskies carried the redshirt junior out of the court as she was unable to put any weight on her left leg. As she was limping her way out of the D.J. Sokol Arena, her teammates tried encouraging her as they gathered around her. In the replay, everyone could see Griffin grabbing her leg on her way up when she was attempting the block.

What does Geno Auriemma have to say?
Soon after, UConn’s boss Geno Auriemma tried to provide further updates on Aubrey Griffin’s injury in his postgame media address. He said, “Apparently she went to put her foot down and her foot turned in…and it kind of kicked her knee in. There wasn’t anybody around, there wasn’t any contact there, she was still on the floor. It wasn’t like she jumped, from the little I’ve been able to gather.”
The latest injury scare poses some serious problems for UConn’s campaign. After losing their star junior guard due to a torn ACL and meniscus, dark clouds cast around the Huskies’ fate again this season. However, fans will still hope that it’s nothing serious and they see Griffin back in action soon.
