The NCAA tournament this season has been amazing. Despite all the upsets and busted brackets, fans have witnessed some amazing basketball. However, it has been marred by the unfortunate passing of Oscar Frayer, a senior player from the Grand Canyon Antelopes.

The 23-year-old passed away in a car accident on Tuesday, just days after the Antelopes played in the NCAA tournament. The team has now paid an emotional tribute to him in a video released on YouTube.

The heart-rending video shows Frayer’s journey with the Antelopes. It is a collage of some of the best memories Frayer made with Grand Canyon with his teammates both on and off the court. He was a fan favorite and also one of the most loved among his teammates.

The tribute video shows how the team let him cut down the nets after both their regular season and conference tournament victories, showing his place as a leader on the team. The video doesn’t have any on-court playing highlights but still covers his best moments in a Grand Canyon jersey.

Oscar Frayer: Vital part of a historic season for the Grand Canyon Antelopes

Frayer was part of the Antelopes since 2016. He started every game this season and was a crucial member of the team despite not being the first name on the stats sheet.

Frayer played his role as the Antelopes galloped over the WAC teams to win both the Regular Season Championship as well as the Conference tournament.

This inspiring campaign helped the Antelopes make their first-ever appearance at the NCAA tournament. They had a few appearances at the Division II level, but this was their first time at the main dance.

They played the Iowa Hawkeyes in their first game, and although it ended in a loss, Frayer and the Antelopes showed a lot of heart.

Grand Canyon coach Bryce Drew also had an emotional press release following Frayer’s passing. “We love O,” Drew said. “He was the heartbeat of our team with his vibrant, energetic personality. I cannot put into words the hurt and sadness we all feel, but we know he is in heaven and that gives us great joy to know we will be together again.”
