WATCH: Controversial Double Technicals Add Drama to NC State vs Virginia Clash

The game took an unexpected turn when not one but two technical fouls were called within a mere second span, leaving players, coaches, and fans scratching their heads. 

This act by the officials during an intense game ignited controversy and raised questions about refereeing in the heat of competition.

A double dose of fouls

During the second quarter of the game between the NC State Wolfpack and the Virginia Cavaliers a controversial moment occurred, when the emotions ran high and the scores of both the teams were almost tied. Amid the match, Madison Hayes of the Wolfpack executed a skillful play and couldn’t contain her excitement and shouted, “And 1!” However, the officials were not happy with her actions and deemed the outburst as unsportsmanlike conduct, while calling a technical foul.

Surprisingly, within a mere 38-second span, a similar scenario unfolded. Mimi Collins of the Wolfpack caught up in the intensity of the match, shouted, “And 1!” after making a basket. And this time the refs called a technical foul again leaving the players and the fans expressing their mixed emotions of disbelief and frustration. 

Even the commentator of the match couldn’t believe the ref’s call, and said, “She should say, ‘and 1’, come on now! Now, I’m upset about it…..This is a big-time move, she gets fouled, she goes, ‘and 1.’ What are we doing?”

Over the years, refs have ruined several games after calling bad fouls, and with every bad foul they call now, the more frustrating it gets for the fans and the players and they seek justice for their beloved teams and players.

Notably, the NC State Wolfpack team is maintaining their perfect record in the ongoing 2023-24 NCAA season.

The Lady Wolfs started their season with a tremendous win over the Charlotte 49ers as they ended the match with the final score of 84-43.
