Jersey number is more significant for a player than mere identity. Every player has an emotional story interwoven with their jersey. So whenever a jersey is retired, it is considered the highest honor a player could ask for. The reigning star of the Stanford Cardinals, Cameron Brink, unveils one such story about her jersey, which has a deep root in a legacy inherited from her parents.
Cameron Brink entered college basketball with the privilege of being Steph Curry’s godsister. Despite having idolized him, Brink has a gene for basketball, which allows her to excel on the court, and that gives her the teeny tiny privilege of holding her own jersey no. 22. On a podcast, she shared her little story behind her jersey and Tatoo.

“So my mama was 22 when she played for Virginia Tech, and her number was 22, so we’re all like 22, and we’re all connected by this amazing number,” Brink said.
She then continued to say how important her mom’s number is: “She was the first in her family to attend college; she graduated; she received full D1 scholarships at Virginia Tech; by the end of time, she was a hall of famer at ACC.” Brink added that her mother was a trend-setter in their family: “She was really a trailblazer for her family.”
Hailing from a small town, what Michelle Brink has achieved is something quite mentionable. Brink continued the significance of her mother playing basketball: “If it weren’t for them playing basketball, I wouldn’t be here. My mother met my father at Virginia Tech, and I have tattooed their number 2242 on my wrist.” She has tattooed the jersey numbers of her parents, as it was of the utmost importance for her to enter basketball.
