The Los Angeles Lakers ended their season with a 47-35 record. LeBron James & Co. lost 1-4 in the first round to the Nuggets. They were 3rd in the Pacific and 7th in the Western Conference. Their head coach Darvin Ham was fired from his position four days after the Lakers were ousted. Hence, they were in search of a new coach. Their quest ended when the Lakers zeroed in on the University of Connecticut Huskies star mentor Dan Hurley, as per reports.
But if Hurley were to leave UConn, it wouldn’t just hurt the team in one way but also have repercussions that might impact the squad. And the basketball enthusiasts were a little intimidated after hearing the news.

As per NCAA coaching changes rules, any mentor who decides to change jobs will open the transfer portal for 30 days for its players and that is what seems to be the case for the Huskies, if Hurley becomes the head coach for the Lakers. The players also get to use the transfer portal within 30 days if an aid is canceled. The same was tweeted by celebrated sports journalist Pete Nakos.
If Danny Hurley leaves UConn for the Los Angeles Lakers, the 30-day transfer portal would open for UConn players.

The issue with the consecutive champions arises since they had built a formidable team under Hurley. A lot of players could enter the transfer portal since an effective coach is one of the primary reasons players stick to the team. The coach understands their gameplay and has a one-to-one bond with players.
The news of Hurley’s possible transfer would increase their woes since their star players like Tristen Newton, Hassan Diarra, and Andrew Hurley are already in their senior year. The new coach if a transfer happens will have to rebuild the team and it will be interesting to see if UConn will emulate their previous glorious performances. The usual transfer seasons are different from the current one.
What are the normal transfer period windows?
The NCAA rules dictate that the transfer windows are open as per the season of the sport. The sports are divided into three categories – Fall, Winter, and Spring. The Fall Sports have two windows. The first one opens up on the next day of the Championship selection and lasts for about 45 days. The second time the window opens is from May 1 to May 15.
For the spring sports, the first window follows the same rule as that of Falls’ first sport rule. Whereas for the second time, the window opens from December 1 to December 15. And coming to basketball which is a winter sport, the window opens for 60 days following the Championship selection.
