With a spectacular 9-1 tally, the University of Connecticut Huskies men’s basketball team will be at loggerheads against the Gonzaga Bulldogs who have a respectable 8-2 stat.

Both teams are one of the best in their own conferences and hence it is one of the most anticipated clashes of this season. Here are three things to look for in this game:-

Player to Watch

The Huskies have one of their best players in their guard Tristen Newton. Newton tops not only the scoring charts but also occupies the numero uno position in rebounds, assists, and steals average.

It is quite evident that he has been the go-to man for the Huskies this season. Newton smashed a double-double in 2 games, and a triple-double in another. The Gonzaga will have to contain Newton if they want to make anything of this game.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs’ forward Graham Ike has been the top scorer for them with an average of 14.2 points per game. He has averaged a double-double in three contests so far, proving his calibre in both offense and defense.

If Ike gets going then it will be an uphill task for the Huskies to stop him. Hence, Ike will also have to make sure that he uses the most of his agility and the free space he gets.

Huskies’ Offense

Another thing to watch will be if the Huskies can get an unassailable lead against the Bulldogs. The Huskies performed quite similarly in their previous game when they had squared off against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The UConn led in both the halves with respectable margins of 45-33, and 56-30. It will be interesting to see if they take the same approach against the Gonzaga and try to exploit their rivals with their offensive tactics.

The Huskies have adopted this tactic and it looks good since it concentrates on offense. This leads to humongous scores and with the Huskies succeeding it also translates to a huge lead margin. However, with the Bulldogs it is likely that there will be a lot of back and forth that will make it a nail-biter contest.

For the Gonzaga Bulldogs what stands out is their defense. The two games that they have lost have been moderate-scoring matches. Their forwards Ike and Anton Watson stand out in their rebound average with 7.9 rebounds per contest and 8.2 rebounds per match respectively.

If the Gonzaga are able to turn the tables it will be a tit-for-tat game that might also go into overtime.
