Angel Reese became a prominent player in the 2022–23 women’s collegiate basketball season. Standing tall at 6-foot-2, this forward from Baltimore gave the LSU Lady Tigers an outstanding performance, averaging 16.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. By April 2023, her outstanding abilities were crucial in helping LSU win the NCAA title, propelling her to widespread recognition.

It didn’t, however, end there. After this championship victory, Reese’s internet fame soared, making her a household name instead of just an under-the-radar player. Her social media following rapidly reached the millions, with a mind-blowing 2.5 million on Instagram alone as of today.

Angel Reese’s reputation in collegiate basketball also rose to unparalleled heights after her NCAA victory. She was able to negotiate hefty endorsement contracts with well-known brands including McDonald’s, Mercedes Benz and Amazon. Reese was also featured in renowned publications such as Time, Glamour and Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Issue.

While it may have been a rapid rise to stardom, Angel Reese had her “rock” by her side throughout her journey. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Reese talked about her biggest supporter throughout her whole journey: her mother. She revealed, “My mom. She’s been my rock, my everything.”

Angel Reese’s mother, Angel Webb is a single mother and has raised Reese and her brother by herself. She continued, “My biggest goal was to secure a full college scholarship so she wouldn’t have to worry about the expenses. Achieving that and seeing both her kids pursue their passions and get a debt-free college education has been incredibly fulfilling. I’ll graduate this year, and my brother will follow next year as he continues his education. Seeing everything she’s done as an independent black woman has always been inspiring.”

Reese’s mother played a crucial role in helping her out of one of her lowest points in life. Reese recalled in the interview how she broke her foot at the age of 17. Being a freshman, Reese had her future set firmly in mind. But this injury made her future uncertain, as she was forced to sit out from the sport she dearly loved. Reese called it her “lowest point” and stated that she “felt lost.”
