Mulkey was asked about getting a chance to be near her previous university. And in the chit-chat, the California-born also opened up on her retirement plans and how she wanted to spend her retirement life like former Texas A&M Aggies head coach, Gary Blair.
“I have to tell you – I somewhat forgot how close I was to my grandbabies and they showed up and I went ‘Duh!’ It’s like, ‘Mom, you didn’t realize we were coming to spend the night with you’. And I was like, ‘I really forgot.’ It’s an hour away, hour and 10 minutes, whatever. So just being able to sleep with them and have everyone around me yesterday and today and a lot of memories in this building. I got to visit with Coach Blair before the game and he’s living the life that I hope to live someday in retirement,” Mulkey observed.
For the unversed, Mulkey had previously coached the Baylor University from 2000 to 2021. This gave her a chance to spend a lot of time in Waco, Texas which is quite near the Texas A&M University.
She even won three championship titles with the Baylor in 2005, 2012 and 2019. Her social circle and support in Waco are so great that LSU had put up a billboard of the Final Four in Waco.
A LSU spokesperson as per Baylor Lariat, had revealed that “Coach Mulkey still has a house in Waco and her grandkids live in Waco.” On the other hand, Blair had coached the Aggies from 2003 to 2022 before his retirement.
