Michigan is having a rather forgettable NCAA season. The Wolverines made a dreadful start to their campaign by losing 4 games in a row and managed to win just six out of their 15 games so far. On top of that, they are currently at the bottom of the Big 10. However, this is not the reason why they are currently making headlines.
Apparently, one of their key performers this season–Dug McDaniel–is facing suspension. As per the school’s announcement, the sophomore guard will be out of action for the next six road games.

The Field Of 68: After Dark recently discussed this pressing matter in its latest episode. The podcast featured Rob Dauster, Jeff Goodman, Doug Gottlieb, and Chris Mack expressing their reactions to McDaniel’s suspension. Following this, popular basketball analyst Jeff Goodman went on to explain the reason behind it. He said, “I think it’s academics unless they’re trying to throw a curveball at people. Everything that I kind of heard over the last week or two leading up to this was it was academics.”
Dug has been the standout performer for Michigan this season. In the 15 games so far, he has maintained an average of 17.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. In addition to this, he also landed two 33-point performances in Michigan’s nonconference matchups against Florida and Oregon.

What does Michigan’s boss have to say?
Coach Juwan Howard released a statement describing McDaniel’s suspension in a recent press release. He said, “Beginning with our game at Maryland, Dug McDaniel will not travel to road games until further notice. Dug will dress for home games, however, when we are away from Ann Arbor, he will work towards meeting several academic goals he has set and needs to meet. While I am disappointed, this is not something we take lightly. This is an important step for Dug and his success as a student-athlete.”
The announcement has created quite a buzz among everyone. While there are several speculations on the reason behind his absence, there is no denying that his exclusion will hurt the Wolverines’ season. Further, his participation in Michigan’s away games was crucial if they wished to get their campaign back on track.
