Yesterday, Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer added another star to her 45-year illustrious career with a win over Oregon State. Tara has always been an outstanding coach, evidenced by 267 losses which is similar to a grain of salt in the ocean with her 1200+ wins so far.
As a coach, she holds a win-loss percentage of .818. Moreover, at Stanford, Tara has a record of 1051 wins and 216 losses, with a win-loss percentage of .830.
During the course of her coaching career, she led the Stanford Cardinals to three NCAA Division I Tournament championships in 1990, 1992, and 2021. In addition, she led her team to 13 NCAA Regional-Final Four, 27 Pac-12 Conference regular season, and 14 Pac-12 Conference tournament championships.

Which NCAA coach is second in line to break this record?
With a very close margin left to cover, Tara’s winningest NCAA coach record can be broken by the UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma, who has won around 1196 games so far in his career. Secondly, being an active coach, this season he is most likely to catch VanDerveer in this record as he is on the edge of surpassing Coach K’s mark.
This makes it a rare possibility as both VanDerveer and Auriemma are active coaches, with many more games left to win until retirement. Moreover, VanDerveer is just nine months older than Auriemma (69 years) at 70. So, things may come down to the anticipation of who is going to retire first.
