It’s a bumpy ride for the LSU forward Angel Reese. She first missed out on four consecutive matches before receiving an unsettling update about her boyfriend. Her beau and the Florida State Seminoles guard Cam’ron Fletcher suffered a right knee injury in one of his recent games against the North Carolina Tar Heels

The Bayou Barbie became emotional after the incident. She uploaded a story on Instagram, with a caption, “I love you my sweet boy,” tagging Fletcher’s account. But this was not the first time that Fletcher had to go through such strain.

Initial Injuries

Fletcher was in his sophomore year in February 2022 when the Florida State Seminoles apart from an embarrassing 60-68 loss against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons went on backfoot due to one more reason. Apparently, two of their stars Cam’ron Fletcher and John Butler had twisted their ankles.

Fletcher could only play 12 minutes in the game, potting 5 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Their head coach Leonard Hamilton was doubtful about both the players’ return, and had divulged that their fitness report could only be known before game-time.  Fortunately, Fletcher was cleared to play against the Pittsburgh Panthers in which he basketed 9 points with 7 rebounds and a 2-for-2 free throw tally.

This was the first time that Fletcher had suffered an injury at the college level and was just the beginning of his fight with his body. He would later go through a lot of pain towards the end of the season.

The sophomore player again suffered an injury not far off from his last one. The bruise came when he was plying his trade for the Seminoles in a match against the Notre Dame. Though the Seminoles cruised to a 74-70 victory against the Fighting Irish, Fletcher was hurt while diving for a loose ball during the contest.

The 6-foot-7-inch guard was ruled out of the season and advised to undergo surgery. Thus, he missed out on the NCAA and ACC tournament matches starting with the regular season clash against the North Carolina.

Fletcher played an average of 16.3 minutes and besotted an average of 6.8 points with 3.4 rebounds per contest. He also showed his defensive skills seizing 0.9 steals per match. He scored a double figure in 9 of his games, finishing in two digits in every game where he was given more than 25 minutes.

Thus, it was evident that he had stepped up for his team whenever given an opportunity.

The Later Tragedies

Tragedy struck Fletcher once again when he was playing against the Virginia Cavaliers during the tenth game of his junior season. The Seminoles lost against the Cavaliers with a narrow 62-57 margin on 4 December, 2022.

Fletcher was injured in the match and was later diagnosed with an ACL tear. The Anterior Cruciate Ligament connects the thigh bone with the shin bone and Fletcher had wounded it in his right knee.

The injury was so grave that his coach hadn’t anticipated his return in the season opener this year against the Kennesaw State. The St. Louis-born underwent rehab to recover in time. Overall, Fletcher averaged 10.8 points in the 10 games he played with 7.5 rebounds per contest. It was a big loss for the Seminoles since Fletcher had then become one of their mainstay players.

Unfortunately, Fletcher’s recent injury came in the same knee as his ACL tear and marked the Seminoles second straight loss. It is presently unclear when Fletcher will recover since Hamilton had expressed concerns post the game: “We don’t know…it doesn’t look good.”

For now, Fletcher can be happy that Reese has been his constant support, and even if he fails to recover before the next game, he can at least take away the fact that he made the most of the gametime he was given this season, averaging 6.7 points with 5 rebounds per match.
