Sue Bird has set on a mission to give everyone in the world an inside peek into what goes on behind the stage in basketball. The very second episode of her show Sue’s Places with ESPN gave us the best of both worlds. The very popular and extremely funny Jason Sudeikis has a special appearance. And yes, Jason knows how to get a crowd rolling on their stomach laughing.
However, this time he not only electrified Allen Fieldhouse but gave an intense pep talk to Bill Self’s Kansan Jayhawks. This was right before Jason’s team (Jawhawks) stood against Sue’s team (Huskies).

Sue Bird has definitely stepped into an unfamiliar territory by getting Jason Sudeikis on her show. She was in for a ride as the actor and comedian made it his mantra to give her some hard truths. To begin with, Sue always thought that Jason was a KU alum. When she asked him about his days, he couldn’t help but stammer. He responded, “I wanna be honest with you. I didn’t actually go to school here. But I’m a life-long fan.” To this unexpected turn of events, Sue Bird quickly quipped, “I should’ve called Paul Rudd!”
It was a very funny take on what was just supposed to be a tour. And why not when the Ted Lasso star was in the episode? Later in the episode, they met with the Jayhawks and their head coach Bill Self. Surprisingly, Jason gave a very heartfelt pep talk to the boys before they ripped apart Sue Bird’s alma mater UConn. His touching speech involved, “If I would have been good enough for KU, I would’ve loved to come here. But you have fun because when you have a good time, we have a good time.”
While there were some uncomfortable and awkward moments, Jason did ignite a fire in the Jayhawks as they banished the Huskies by 69-65. Further, he got to enjoy a specific experience that only the KU students get.
Sue Bird gives Jason the “student-experience”
One thing that Jason did ask for was to watch the match like a normal student would. Undeniably, Sue Bird took it to her heart. Sue and Jason both stood in the student section and cheered for their teams. Jason fitted right into the crowd as he played the drums with a Kansas student. All in all, both Sue and Jason had an amazing time as he checked off things from his lifelong student bucket-list.
