The legendary coach Bob Knight remained a controversial figure till his passing away on Wednesday. His career saw a lot of ebbs and flows as the former Indiana Hoosiers head coach was looked up to for his on-court exploits but met with discouragement for his attitude.
His idiosyncratic lifestyle reached its height when he decided to move from Bloomington to Texas and back to Bloomington in a matter of a few decades. His presence in the media was for more than just being a coach.
Who was Bob Knight?

Bob Knight was a college basketball coach who had won the most NCAA games at the time of his retirement. He coached the Army Black Knights for six years (1965–1971) and the Indiana Hoosiers from 1971 to 2000 before switching to the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2001 to 2008.
Nicknamed “The General”, Knight held many spectacular records especially when his team had a victory run during the 1975-76 regular season and clinched the 1976 NCAA silverware. He also took his achievements to the national level by coaching the USA men’s Olympic team to a gold medal.
When did he buy a home in Bloomington?
As per Indy Star, Knight bought a house three miles from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in July 2019. For the unversed, Assembly Hall is the home court for Indiana Hoosiers’ men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Knight had previously coached them for 29 years. He signed the property papers along with his wife Karen Knight. The house had an expansive area of 4,840 sq. feet. It was located in Bloomington in the Shadow Creek subdivision near College Mall.
The house was said to be built by Brewer Fine Homes in 2018 and had a luxurious 5-bedroom and 3.5 bath rooms. It was purchased by the Knight family for $572,500 in July 2019.
The house as per reports had a living room with vaulted ceilings, elegant wood beams and wooden ceilings, and an intricate wood paneling in the master bedroom. The basement had an unparalleled beautiful bathroom with a home theater room. There were customized cabinets and stainless steel appliances.
Knight was previously married to Nancy Falk with whom he had two sons – Tim and Pat. Pat played at the Indiana from 1991 to 1995 before starting his coaching career at Lamar. Bob had earlier divorced his wife in 1985. The same end was for his friendship with Coach K. The 1987 Naismith College Coach of the Year then went into marry Karen Vieth Edgar who was also a basketball coach with the Oklahoma high school. They together had bought the Bloomington house after residing in Texas.
What happened to his previous homes?
The Texas house was no less aesthetic since it had 5 bedrooms and 4-bathrooms and had a staggering value of $536,000.
As per ESPN, Bob had put up his home for auction in 2004 after which he left Bloomington. The dwelling spawned nearly five acres of land and had approximately 546 square feet and a 300-square-foot bathroom. It was priced at $397,500 which was quite affluent for a house in Bloomington.

As per Monroe County paper records, the residence was sold to Scott E. Swaffar in March. Visitors sprawled to the property to take a look at it as the legendary coach had lived there while mentoring the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. The home was apparently built in 1982 and had four bathrooms and bedrooms.
