Is Paige Bueckers' victory over Flau'jae Johnson a sign of her impending NCAA dominance?

One can only imagine what a game would be like when two NCAA rivals take the position of coaches and select the best high school athletes to clash against each other. Well, fans did not have to wait for long as their wishes came true on Friday when Overtime Select held yet another matchup between Team Paige Bueckers and Team Flau’jae Johnson. While the two athletes had their share of fun while coaching the athletes, Johnson looked to be roasting Bueckers by taking a dig at her.

Johnson told her athletes not to make turnovers and have fun in the game during a timeout. Then, Johnson’s team had 17 points in comparison to Bueckers’ 10 points. Next, Jonhson’s team nailed a layup taking the lead to 9 points. Hence, she took a sly dig at Bueckers, enumerating “Ooh! At this point, she actually looking nervous… She’s looking nervous,” on the mic. Now whether she did it in the rush of the moment or to lower Bueckers confidence is not known, but the two off-court friends and on-court rivals always have something to say to each other.

Meanwhile, during the Takeover Weekend, Johnson also ran over the court, fixed her hair, and did a little rap, all in a way to motivate her team to perform better. She continued her dance whenever one of her players scored with an impressive shot. Among the participants in the 5×5 basketball were Mia and Mya Pauldo (class of 2025), Stanford commit Hailee Swain (2025), Jerzy Robinson (2026), Kate Harpring (2026) and GG Banks (2027).

Therefore, Johnson looks to have motivated the participants to reach her level in the future. However, it was Bueckers who had the last laugh as per the video as she defeated Johnson’s team by a 105-102 margin. This comes just before the start of the NCAA season when both of them would be looking to win it all for their teams. Meanwhile, this was not the first time that the two were involved in a friendly altercation.
