Caitlin Clark will be the center of attention this week as she inches closer to breaking the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record. However, many believe that the USC freshman guard JuJu Watkins, who recently scored a record 51 points against Stanford, will soon follow in Clark’s footsteps.

While no respect is lost between the two, Watkins is as passionate about basketball as Caitlin is. On top of that, her mannerisms, in tune with those of the NBA’s legends, will only take her a step further. On the Gil’s Arena, the hosts debated what would happen if Caitlin and Watkins came face to face.

Is JuJu Watkins coming for Caitlin Clark?

According to Josiah Johnson, the presenter of Gil’s Arena, Caitlin Clark will break Kelsey Plum’s record of 3,527 points. Iowa’s star guard is just 66 points behind Plum. However, Johnson believes, the 6’1 Trojans guard is coming right behind her. In fact, the stats of the two monsters of the NCAA also support the fact. In the same light, former NBA star Rashad McCants commented, “She (Caitlin) for me would be considered the Larry Bird and JuJu Watkins would be the LeBron James. JuJu’s got the talent, natural ability. Caitlin is doing is something I’ve never seen before.”

The current LA Sparks pointing guard Lexi Brown then discussed what would happen if Iowa and USC went against each other. According to Lexie Brown, “They will never play against each other.” To this, Gil Arena said, “If they matched up, it would be embarrassing for Caitlin. She can’t guard JuJu. And JuJu’s gonna guard her.” Contrastingly, Rashad disagreed and simply put up the point Caitlin will have “two big girls, get her off me.” Rashad implied that Caitlin could ask the two biggest girls to screen JuJu Watkins so she could play.

Rashad continued praising Iowa’s talented No. 22 and thought she could be picked for the WNBA. He said, “She could’ve left last year. What I am talking about, just take her and let her go. Everybody else the rules still apply to y’all, but y’all not her. You see what she’s doing. Crazy, incredible. She ain’t gotta put up 51, cause what she’s doing and how she plays. It’s like ok, can you stop her from getting to the cup and if you try to stop, pop, boom from wherever the f**k she want to shoot it from.”

Clearly, the debate cannot come to a conclusive ending. So, what do the stats say?
