UConn was the national champion this year! They won it on the ‘power of friendship’, they say—and that felt real. Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and Sarah Strong weren’t just hooping on the court, they looked just as locked in off it too. That Big 3 bond was unmatched. But let’s not sugarcoat it—back-to-back championships don’t come from good vibes alone. If UConn wants to run it back next season, they’ll need more than heart. They’ll need strategy, depth—and most importantly—a stronger frontcourt.
So, what’s priority number one? Fixing the glaring hole in the paint. It’s no secret the biggest soft spot this past season was UConn’s depth in the paint. Strong held it down. But outside of her, Huskies lacked a true, seasoned big who could bang down low and dominate. So looking ahead to 2025-26, Geno Auriemma has some roster math to solve. If they want another deep run, they’ve gotta find someone who can slide in next to Strong and share the center spot with El Alfy.
Well, Coach Geno Auriemma may already have his eye on the missing piece. It’s been buzzing for a while now—UConn is pursuing 6-foot-4 forward Serah Williams, who recently declared her entry into the transfer portal after three strong seasons at Wisconsin. She’s got one year of eligibility left.

Even a national scout confirmed it on Twitter, writing, “Sources tell me that UConn is, in fact, one of the schools Serah Williams has heard from since entering the transfer portal.”

And once you look at her stats, you’ll understand why fans are so excited. Williams averaged 19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks last season. She was a double threat on both ends—grabbing a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team and Defensive Team. Back-to-back seasons, by the way.
Oh, and this wasn’t just a one-hit wonder. As a sophomore, she put up 17.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, worthy of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. As a freshman, 12.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, a career-high 31-point game against Michigan State, and a spot on the All-Freshman Team. If this transfer happens, she’ll be the fifth Canadian to rep UConn’s blue and white.
But forget the rumors for a second—fans think this might already be a done deal. Why? Because social media’s spilling some tea. Eagle-eyed fans caught that Fudd and KK Arnold just followed Williams. And she followed them back. That tiny click of the follow button has got the fanbase celebrating like it’s Selection Sunday.
What’s your perspective on:
Is UConn's 'power of friendship' enough, or is Serah Williams the real game-changer they need?
Have an interesting take?
UConn’s transfer dream might come true if Azzi Fudd’s social media is anything to go by
“This is who I’ve been hoping for. If we get her, we are going back to back,” one fan declared, and honestly they might be on to something. The baller currently ranked sixth on ESPN’s top transfers list, is the definition of a game-changer. Dubbed her “program’s best,” she’s exactly what UConn needs right now. With Paige Bueckers stepping out and Caroline Ducharme and Azzi Fudd returning for fifth year, the Huskies are entering a whole new era. And you know what helps in a transition like that? A solid senior.
Moreover, if Williams is already vibing with the squad, we might witness another championship born out of friendship. “I hope this happens,” another fan chimed in, and from a roster perspective, things are falling into place real smooth. UConn’s got three high school recruits coming in and three players heading out, meaning there’s just one scholarship spot left before they hit the 15-player cap for 2025–26. It’s like the stars are aligning and Serah could be that final piece.
Then someone else jumped in with “PLEASE🤞🏼🤞🏼” But you know, this isn’t just great for UConn—it could be the perfect for Williams, too. She’s been a standout at Wisconsin, loyal as ever, but the Badgers have gone 39–54 with zero winning seasons in the past three years.

A player like her deserves a shot at the big dance before she wraps up her college career, and if there’s one program that can hand her that ticket, it’s UConn. And just when you think fans are done, someone pointed out a sneaky detail: “Her coach at Wisconsin, coaches at UConn as well.” Not now, but let’s unpack that. Williams’ head coach, Marisa Moseley, used to be an assistant at UConn from 2009 to 2018. She’s the one who brought Williams to Wisconsin and their connection ran deep. Moseley resigned earlier this year—right before Williams hit the portal.

Could be that Moseley’s exit whispered a little something to Auriemma, and the wheels started turning. Possibility. Another one said, “Q just hopped in the portal. Maybe she knows something.” Yes, Qadence Samuels is leaving after two years in Storrs. She was a solid presence off the bench but never found her way into the main rotation. With Williams potentially heading in, maybe Q saw the writing on the wall? Maybe the Huskies are making room for someone special and she figured it was time to bounce.

But till anything gets official, it’s all just rumors. There are whispers about LSU being in the mix too, so who knows what’s really brewing behind those doors. Let’s just wait and see.
