No. 3 ranked Notre Dame in the AP women’s hoops ranking just got handed a defeat by No. 17 ranked TCU, and leading the way for the Horned Frogs was transfer Hailey Van Lith. After one year at LSU where she had a rollercoaster of a year, Van Lith has regained her form in the current season. While she efficiently scored 23 points and recorded eight assists, and seven rebounds, there was also another Horned Frogs teammate in the spotlight.

Sedona Prince, in her 6th year in college thanks to COVID-19 regulations, just made history vs. Notre Dame last night. Usually known for her outspoken nature against the NCAA’s lack of equity in the men’s and women’s game, the 24-year-old has been killing it on the court lately.

And yet, fans are asking for TCU to trade her away. A recent X post by the school revealed, “Sedona Prince is the first player in NCAA 𝙃𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙍𝙔 to record 20 rebounds and eight blocks in a game against an AP Top Five opponent.” But while the school certainly thinks that she “Earned her flowers 👏” fans think differently.

Hailey Van Smith’s teammate should retire, claim college hoops fans

In the 76-68 victory against the Fighting Irish, Sedona Prince not only recorded a double-double but also scored 20 points and 20 rebounds. Per ESPN on Instagram, it made her the first TCU player since Sandora Irvin in 2004 to accomplish the feat. But looking at fan comments on the X post, she might as well not play for the Frogs.

Given that it’s her 6th year, one fan poked, “Well how much older is she than everyone else? Super senior 5X” while another said, “she pushing 30” and one exaggerated a little, “She’s 35 playing against 18 year olds…” It might only be a second extra year and a single or double-year age gap between her and most of the rest of college players, but for many, she should be playing professionally already.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Sedona Prince's extended college career a testament to resilience or a sign she should move on?

In her overall seventh year of college, Prince had played 70 games as of Nov.3rd, per The New York Times, bogged down by COVID-19 as well as injuries. Health-wise, it’s not been the best experience for the 24-year-old, perhaps why she wants to finish her college hoops career with a bang.

Last year, a broken finger requiring surgery kept her out of most of the season with the Frogs. The injury saga had begun at Oregon before this, where she missed her first year after transferring from the University of Texas because of a horrific leg injury incurred while competing for U.S.A. Basketball’s U-18 team. Next year it was a torn ligament in her elbow but even that wasn’t as bad as her fibula and tibia snapping when landing on an opponent’s foot playing for the U.S. team.

Perhaps it should be noted that UConn star Paige Bueckers is also in her 5th season for the same pandemic regulations and the playtime she missed due to injury. But while she’s also the projected No. 1 draft entry in 2025, Sedona Prince has some unsavory allegations against her.

One fan seemed unimpressed by the statistics the TCU team posted, writing, “Random a– record” while one said simply, “delete this”.

Perhaps it should also be noted that so far this season, TCU is 8-0 and on track to bring a great game in March Madness. While Van Lith has been playing consistently, averaging 23.7 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in the last three games, per ‘I Talk Hoops’ on X, Sedona Prince has been giving a huge leg up to the Frogs.

In a mock draft last week, ESPN ranked Prince No. 6 for her “enormous talent” when she’s healthy. So far this season, all signs point to a successful year as not just Prince and Van Lith but the rest of the Frogs are also in good form. In her likely last season in college, will TCU and Sedona Prince be able to ride it out before fan chants become even angrier?
