With a successful season under her belt, Sedona Prince is finally headed to the 2025 WNBA draft. The 6’7″ center will be carrying experience from across Oregon and TCU in advancing to the pros. And though injury marred her initial run, she couldn’t have asked for a better end to her collegiate career.

Under Mark Campbell’s guidance, Prince went on to improve 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. She’d also receive All-Big 12 First Team honors and was named an All-American Honorable Mention by the AP, USBWA, and WBCA. Moving closer to home after suffering an elbow injury may just have been the best decision.

After the successful campaign, Prince made it to ESPN’s mock draft in March as a first-round pick. Though her stock has fallen since, with ample craft and height advantage, she is still under the radar.

Where will Sedona Prince likely land in the 2025 WNBA draft? 

1. Los Angeles Sparks

Ever since Nneka Ogwumike left the Sparks, the franchise has been rebuilding. An elite rim protector, Prince can be just the long-term anchor in the post the team needs. She’s blocked nearly nine percent of all opponents’ shots this season– better than 97% of them nationally. 

Moreover, known for being the tallest college basketball athlete, Prince can become an immediate contributor for the Sparks. Her scoring efficiency and post presence could help the franchise build on its frontcourt identity. 

2. Chicago Sky

The Sky already have their foundation in Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso. Heading into 2025, they will look to add size and playmaking to facilitate the two in the paint. At 6’7″, Prince could be a good fit, stretching the floor and finishing around the rim. Her assist to turnover ratio that has been ranked better than 94% of the players nationally, cannot be ignored either.

Moreover, the Sky have stacked their rosters with veterans in Courtney Vandersloot, Rebecca Allen, and Kia Nurse. It would be a good opportunity for Prince to develop under the leadership, providing depth in the meantime. 

3. Washington Mystics

The Washington Mystics are in a bit of jeopardy these days. With Elena Delle Donne and Ariel Atkins gone, they are in dire need of a go-to interior presence while also seeking a new identity.

Though the Mystics already have bigs in Aaliyah Edwards and Shakira Austin, the latter’s future still sits in uncertainty, while Edwards is going to need some polishing to fill in as the power forward. Ideally, Dominique Malonga would be the franchise’s go-to. But if Seattle Storm’s decision were to disrupt the plan, they could have Prince to lean back on. Her rebounding ability and shot-blocking depth will act as long-term upside for the team.

4. Seattle Storm

The Seattle Storm is on a ravaging hunt this 2025 season. While Ezi Magbegor’s skills are developing well in the team, Seattle has major depth issues at the centre.

As a senior centre for TSU Horned Frogs, Prince could easily offer minutes right away. Given her skills, she can be paired very well in a big lineup. Moreover, the team will groom her into a becoming a great developmental fit under Seattle head coach Noelle Quinn’s system.

5. Dallas Wings

A native of Texas, Prince started her college career with Texas Longhorn as a redshirt freshman in 2019. Having said that, she can play on her hometown connections to add a marketing bonus to the Dallas Wings.

Centred around star player, Teaira McCowan, the Wings have enough post depth but could use some more size behind McCowan. Popular for her size, this team will prove advantageous for Prince as she can have a comfortable regional transition from being a depth piece initially to transforming into a potential star.

1. Teaira McCowan 

A star player of Dallas Wings, 6-foot-seven inches tall Teaira McCowan is a traditional centre. She is known for her excellent rebounding skills. Not to mention her remarkable interior defences. Sedona, with her effectiveness in paint is quite on track. 

2. Kalani Brown 

Kalani Brown boasts of a 6’7″ height. Belonging to Dallas Wings, a dominant Brown commands a strong post-presence. On the other hand, she is also not only known for her improved mobility, but she is also known for providing soft touches around the rim. Both Prince and Brown are dominating bigs who follow a back-to-the-basket game play and are equally hard to move in the paint.

3. Mercedes Russell 

The third WNBA player to be compared with Prince is Mercedes Russell of the Seattle Storm. Not as loud as her contemporaries, she is one of the smartest players in the Storm’s roster. Despite her 6’6″ height, Russell is an efficient post player whose contribution is effective and immediate. Like Prince, Russell predominantly plays within the system, finishes well inside, and protects the rim.

4. Brittney Griner 

Former Phoenix Mercury star player, Brittney Griner stands at an exceptional height of 6 feet and 9 inches. As an elite shot blocker aside, Griner is also an offensive weapon for the team. She’s popular for her on court mobility, irrespective of her size. While Griner is, of course, more athletic and experienced, Sedona shows flashes of a similar two-way impact.

5. Aliyah Boston 

With a height of 6-feet-five, Aliyah Boston is one of the key players of Indiana Fever. The team heavily depends on her strong interior defences. Besides this, she is an elite rebounder with an exceptionally high basketball IQ. Though Boston is shorter, her combination of power, finesse, and two-way presence aligns perfectly with Sedona’s developing all-round game.
