Now that he has the opportunity, some claim that he is most likely to take up the offer. However, he might not do so, considering his unwavering bond with UConn’s men’s basketball team. As it has been some time since Dan Hurley addressed this topic, he has set a deadline to unveil his decision on taking up the Lakers’ offer.

UConn’s loyalty or Lakers’ opportunity?

The UConn men’s basketball coach will choose either a return to Storrs or a ticket offered by the Lakers on Monday. In a recent interview with ESPN, Hurley expressed a positive response from a meeting with the Lakers. He said after the conversation with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka, he was “extremely impressed,” and it was a “compelling case” to sign a contract.

Notably, the coach has led UConn to two national championships which resulted in him being offered a huge, long-term deal, according to ESPN’s reports. Currently, the coach stands at a $32 million deal with UConn, but as per rumors, he might become one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA with the Lakers’ $70 million offer.

Even though certain facts indicate that Dan Hurley might take up the offer, those who know him well have something to add. “FWIW, Rick Pitino told me today he doesn’t know what Danny will do, but he doesn’t think he’ll take the Lakers job. ‘His father and his wife don’t want to go to Los Angeles.’ Rick made similar comments over the weekend to the NY Post,” says Adam Zagoria on his X account.
