Louisiana State University Lady Tiger’s star Angel Reese has been making headlines ever since her on-court antiques against Iowa Hawkeyes point guard Caitlin Clark. With LSU Tigers winning the championship title and a record 9.9 million people tuning in to watch the match, Reese became a star overnight.

Her younger brother has also been in the public eye for his basketball career with the Maryland Terrapins but not many are aware of her humble beginnings and her mother Angel Webb Reese who inculcated sports in her children.

Born on May 6, 2002, in Maryland, Reese developed a passion for sports owing to her mother who goes by the same name – Angel Webb Reese. The 21-year-old competed with her brother in the driveway which helped her notch up her game during childhood and paved the way for a successful stint in her school and college years.

On spotting talent in her kids during their early childhood, Angel Webb coached them in youth leagues and Amateur Athletic Union teams by teaching them hooping skills and instilling a love for the game in them. However, not many know that Angel also pursued, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, and track sports.

As per Teen Vogue, Angel Webb never pressured her kids into choosing one sport, but allowed them to explore and select what they deemed fit for themselves. Angel had herself spoken about attending the Washington Mystics game quite often and getting a chance to interact with WNBA greats like Candace Parker and Maya Moore, “I used to go to the Washington Mystics games all the time, so I would always see great players.”

How did Angel Reese’s parents perform in the sport

As per Tuko, Angel’s father Michael Reese tried his luck in professional basketball during his stay in Luxembourg, Cyprus, Portugal, and Australia. He was a former athlete who also played football for Boston and Maryland. On the other hand, Angel’s mother professionally represented Luxembourg in basketball and was also a UMBC star during her days in the late 80s and early 90s.

For the record, she scored 1390 points 932 rebounds, and 132 block shots during her entire career according to a YT short from whistlesports. She was awarded the UMBC Female Athlete of the Year in 1992 and also made it to First-Team All-East Conference honors in 1991 and 1992.

Meanwhile, owing to her popularity, Reese signed 5 NIL deals the most interesting one being with Sports Illustrated. Post the swimsuit deal, Reese saw an unprecedented rise in her valuation close to $1.4 million.

Reese entered the transfer portal in April 2022 and enumerated that she wanted a new coach and guidance that could help her develop into stretch four for the WNBA. She also developed an interest in LSU for her transfer after her friend Kateri Poole advised her for the same.

Overall, Reese averages 18.7 points per game with 11.9 rebounds per contest and 1.8 assists per match. She also won the Finals after her trash talk to Caitlin Clark. Thus, Reese’s mother was fundamental in instilling a love for the sport in her kids. Her hard work sure seems to have paid off when Reese won the NCAA Championship title with the LSU Lady Tigers.
