Even though men’s basketball is often known for its aggressive play, fans have a soft spot for athletes who bring a different side to the court. One that’s a bit more chirpy, real, and soft-spoken. And when personality meets talent, that’s when a player becomes a fan favorite. It seems like Colgate’s rising star, Parker Jones, might be heading in that direction.

While the Kentucky Wildcats won at home in Wednesday’s game against Colgate, Jones’ first post-game press conference had fans reacting in admiration. It’s not often that a player from the opposing team gets such love. The sophomore guard couldn’t have been more genuine.

He admitted, “Yeah, first of all, this is pretty sick. I’ve never been in a press conference. So this is like just kind of high-level for me, so I’m sorry if my answer isn’t top-level.” The excitement was palpable as he shared his thoughts on being part of such a big game.

Coming back from halftime, Jones revealed, “We were all super ecstatic. Like, I mean, we play a team like Kentucky—you kind of, at least personally, I dreamed of it like in my backyard.” He even had this vision of himself hitting a three-pointer in the game.

“Parker Jones subs in, and he hits a three, and it comes down,” he said, recalling a scene he had imagined for years. “Being in this environment was really cool and just kind of surreal.” You could really feel the awe in his words.

What made his comments especially sweet is that they came after Colgate’s tough 78-67 loss to Kentucky, a matchup in which they were aiming to bounce back but ultimately dropped their fifth consecutive game. Despite the tough stretch, Parker wasn’t sulking. He was embracing the opportunity, reflecting on the magnitude of playing in such an iconic venue.

As for the game itself, Kentucky found their rhythm after a sluggish start. Colgate initially struggled, falling behind 17-0, but fought back to grab a 41-40 lead early in the second half. However, Kentucky’s 14-2 run by Jaxson Robinson’s consecutive three-pointers sealed the win. Koby Brea played a huge role, scoring 17 points.

As for Colgate, Parker Jones led the charge with 17 points, while Brady Cummins and Jalen Cox contributed 10 each. Now, after #35’s post-game comments went viral, Kentucky fans couldn’t help but heap praise on him.

Could Parker Jones land with the Kentucky Wildcats in the future? Fans predict

One fan said, “Kid played incredible!” Grabbing six rebounds and shooting 66.7% in a game against Kentucky, especially when you’re in the early stages of your collegiate career, is truly no small feat. It shows a level of maturity. Then, another fan chimed in with, “Good luck the rest of the season young man.”

For now, he’s doing great, leading his team in multiple games and scoring in double digits consistently. We still have a long season ahead, so who knows? Maybe he’ll continue to amaze us with even bigger performances down the line.

Moreover, Kentucky is known for its tight-knit “brotherhood vibe” that was instilled by John Calipari. Hence, fans were quick to comment on how Jones’s sportsmanship and demeanor would be a perfect fit for the Wildcats. One fan even wrote, “This guy is awesome would love to see him at UK for vibes alone.”

Adding to that, some fans even predicted that Kentucky might come knocking if he decides to enter the transfer portal. As one fan put it, “If he continues to do well, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pope go after him if he were to enter the portal.” So far, Parker is averaging 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and shooting 42.2%. Kentucky is known for its high-octane offense and is still building its defense in the new Mark Pope era. So, it would be smart to keep an eye on a versatile player like him.

Lastly and most importantly, it was his humble response that really won over hearts. A fan expressed it perfectly, writing, “I love him! What a humble and completely adorable response.” It’s not every day you see a player so ‘chill’ after a tough game, and it’s that kind of authenticity that connects with people
