Georgia Southern, one of the conference’s best offensive and defensive teams, was defeated 70–50 by Old Dominion women’s basketball. The team did an excellent job of staying composed and adjusting to Georgia Southern’s unpredictable game pace, according to head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones.
The Monarchs’ dominance in second-chance points, fast-break points, points off turnovers, and points off the bench showcased their ability to capitalize on opportunities and exploit the Eagles’ weaknesses. But in the intense NCAA match, police were involved and escorted a few as there was a commotion.

Following a close score of 16-16 at the end of the first quarter, the Monarchs proceeded to establish their dominance in the second quarter when Jenny Nkem Womsi and En’Dya Buford executed back-to-back layups. Mimi McCollister put on an amazing display, making all three of her free throws to give ODU a commanding 23–18 lead.
The first half ended with a three-pointer from Jordan McLaughlin and a jumper from Brenda Fontana, making the score 32-23. They brawled during a time-out as a board in chaos amid the tumultuous game, prompting a police investigation after they had to remove two supporters from the stadium to prevent a confrontation. Following their embrace, the two head coaches got things back to normal.
After the scuffle, the game continued as Georgia Southern was unable to establish a rhythm as ODU outscored the visiting team 16–10 in the third quarter and 19–15 in the fourth. With 4:19 left in the fourth quarter, Fontana’s three-pointer capped a further 7-0 run, putting the team up 62-40.
For the fourth time this season, 12 different players scored for the Monarchs, with 12 of them scoring 70 points or more. ODU finished the afternoon with a 25-for-57 (.439), 5-for-16 (.313), and 15-for-22 (.682) shooting percentage at the line.

The Monarchs’ success was also attributed to their strong defensive performance, which limited the Eagles’ scoring opportunities and forced turnovers. The team’s commitment to rebounding was evident in their 42-37 rebounding advantage over the hosts. Additionally, ODU’s disciplined play resulted in fewer turnovers compared to the Eagles.
This defensive prowess was particularly evident in their containment of Terren Ward, a standout player who was held to just 16 points despite averaging 23.6 points per game.
The Monarchs’ collective defensive approach, combined with their aggressive individual efforts, contributed to their success in limiting the opposition’s scoring.
