NC State on a special journey? Looks like tonight was meant to be a historical one for the entire Wolfpack crowd. Both their men’s and women’s basketball teams reigned supreme, handing upsets to their opponents. To add more to that, they made some epic comebacks throughout the games. Further, both Stanford in women’s and Marquette in men’s were hugely projected as favorites to go higher in the bracket. Out of 3 million brackets, zero perfect ones remain on the couch. Does this mean that the 2024 March Madness is anything but predictable? Well, for starters, yes.

Sadly, this also means that Cameron Brink, the 2021 champion, will end her college basketball career on this disappointing note. On a contrasting point, the NC State men’s team cannot help but dance their way to the bracket and add their names for the Elite Eight round.

The American Airlines Center in Dallas was in for a big chunk of fun tonight. The Wolfpack began with an interesting take on the game. They pounced with full force on Marquette. A cascade of poor decisions, like doubling up DJ Burns in the first half, backfired on the Golden Eagles in a big way. While they were able to pick up momentum in the second half, it was not enough to cover the deficit.

Marquette did have an upper hand in the last 20 minutes of the game, ending it with 34-30. However, the four-point lead came too late, and they were out of the single-knockout tournament. NC State won 67-58 over the No.2 Marquette Golden Eagles continuing their Cinderella story.

The lady wolves of the Wolfpack take the lead

While Stanford may have been a projected favorite for many, Cameron Brink’s magic did not work tonight. The Cardinals tried soaring high, ending the first twenty minutes of the game with a lead of ten points at 37-27. However, multiple foul troubles on their top performers Kiki Iriafen and Brink cut down Stanford’s wings.

Additionally, the Wolfpack came with valiant offensive and defensive efforts in the third quarter. Their junior guard Aziaha James brought back-to-back hits, logo-3s, and deep shots to push NC State up by 8 points entering the final ten minutes. They even halted the Cardinals at just 30 points in the last 20 minutes. With Cameron Brink fouling out for good, the lady wolves grabbed their opportunity and made a run to victory.

The Cardinals lost to NC State by 67-77 and ended their 2024 March Madness run at Sweet 16. Undeniably, an epic performance by the Wolfpacks, something that is much expected from the very name of the tournament. With no projections remaining from a whopping total of 3 million, it will be interesting to see how many Cinderella stories NC State can continue writing. What do you think?
