Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers succumbed to their third defeat of the season as the invincible Gamecocks humbled them in their backyard. In a physical tussle, the defending champions couldn’t hold on to their nerves in the closing minutes of the game to suffer a 76-70 defeat. Despite leading the scoreboard for three quarters, the Lady Tigers had their back against the wall in the fourth quarter by spirited offensive effort by the visitors.
Therefore, the outcome of the game was not easy for the LSU’s boss to come to terms with. As a result, the defeat took a toll on her, as Mulkey couldn’t hide her disappointment after the game.

In the post-game press conference, Mulkey expressed her distressing views on the game. She said, “I’m not into moral victories, never have been. We had opportunities to win this game, but we didn’t.” I’m extremely proud of LSU. The atmosphere and what we have created here in 3 years now. It doesn’t get any better than what you’ve experienced tonight. I’m sure I’ll toss and turn all night. Don’t know I’ll sleep much. We’ll learn from it, just like we did when we went to South Carolina last year.”

Valiant efforts from Reese and Morrow
A whole lot of credit should be given to two of the Lady Tigers who kept the home team in front for three-quarters of the game. Aneesah Morrow along with Angel Reese made sure that LSU didn’t go down without a fight in front of their home crowd. Morrow registered her 13th double-double for the season ending the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds. At the same time, the Sporting News Athlete Of The Year–Reese finished with 15 points to go with 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
This loss may prove to be a learning curve for Kim Mulkey and her girls. They might have lost this battle, but the war still goes on for the defending champions. All they need to do is regroup and figure out how to get over this loss and come back strong in their upcoming fixtures.
