The LSU Tigers are back to winning ways after their disappointing outing in the season opener. After losing their first game to Colorado, Kim Mulkey’s team bounced back with 2 dominating back-to-back victories. Having a 2-1 record in the tournament so far, the Lady Tigers locked horns with the Kent State.
Angel Reese and Co. were looking to improve their standings in the points table as they were sitting in the 7th spot. However, a spirited Kent State looked to spoil the party for the home team.

The defending champions had a dull start to the game in front of a sold-out Pete Maravich Assembly Center. They trailed Kent by one point when the officials blew the whistle at the end of the first quarter. Their No.12 Mikaylah Williams showed sparks of her brilliance scoring 8 points with 3 rebounds. Moreover, she also had 3 field goals to her name as well. But Angel Reese inspired the Tigers’ comeback in the second half and LSU didn’t take much time to take the lead. The Bayou Barbie led by example scoring 11 points and 5 rebounds as LSU led the 28-25 scoreboard with just over 4 minutes to go in the second quarter.
Continuous resistance from Kent’s guard Katie Shumate didn’t let LSU out of their sights. Apparently, she scored 17 points and had 6 rebounds before halftime. LSU maintained their lead at half-time with the game evenly poised. The Lady Tigers upped their game a notch in the second half and got a double-digit lead in no time. The two new faces in the Tigers locker room Aneesah Morrow and Haley Van Lith also chipped in with valuable contributions. As a result, five starters ended their night on double figures with the skipper Angel Reese having 11 points to her name.

Mikaylah Williams gives a historic performance
Mikaylah Williams proved to be the standout performer for the Lady Tigers. She started decimating the opponents on her own and there was no stopping her. The freshman entered the record books by scoring 42 points. With her strength and finesse, she was the LSU’s trump card for the night as she registered the best numbers for an LSU freshman. Moreover, she only missed 5 shots throughout the game. Kent State had no option but to surrender to her authority. Furthermore, she also made her teammates look good with her 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
The LSU Tigers seem to be back on track and are now on a roll. Securing a hat-trick of wins, the 2023 NCAA champions are letting the division know who’s the boss. The talent and depth within the team make them one of the contenders for this season as well.
