Hubert Davis, the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team, is married to Leslie Davis. The couple’s three kids learn about the rich fabric of their family life outside of the basketball court. Even if every Davis child follows their hobbies, Hubert and Leslie’s taught family values serve as a common thread that unites them all.

Their upbringing in Chapel Hill has given them access to a supportive atmosphere that has allowed them to excel academically and athletically. However, what about life beyond the game?

Davis and Leslie are parents to three children: Micah, Bobbie Grace, and Elijah Webb. He named his first two kids after his late mother, Bobbie Webb Davis, who passed away at the age of sixteen from oral cancer. Regarding his mother’s memories in his family, Hubert responded in a conversation mentioning, “I got it all over the place.” The kids enjoy athletics just as much as Davis does. Speaking with Chapel Hill Magazine, Davis mentioned that Micah enjoys soccer, Bobbie Grace plays lacrosse, and Elijah, like his father, is a basketball player at the University of Lynchburg.

To prevent his children from feeling as though they were living in his shadow, Davis said he was always dubious about his children participating in sports. Hubert Davis stated, “But Elijah wanted to play basketball. He’s always loved it,” he explained. “And I always felt horrible for him. Because everywhere he goes, he’s always compared, critiqued, judged. I’ve always wanted people to celebrate him, absent of my career.”

The perseverance, tenacity, and togetherness of their parents have a profound impact on the destiny of the Davis children. “My life is my life. Elijah, Gracie, and Micah – it’s their life,” Hubert Davis continued. “I didn’t want any of my kids to have that added pressure of comparison and instant evaluation in terms of comparing it to me.” The family continues to encourage and support one another in a variety of activities, including sports and individual goals.
