Tara VanDerveer, the winningest coach in the nation, may have lost tonight. Looking through a broader lens, however, she won by bringing in stars like Hannah Jump and Cameron Brink to her squad. With a sad goodbye to another National Championship trophy, the two senior players also bid adieu to their NCAA careers. While Jump’s take on WNBA is not clear yet, Cameron Brink has given her word for it. The failing dream of bringing another trophy to the house, nevertheless, hit them quite strongly, as they let out some steam in the post-game interview.

A reporter asked Cameron Brink to describe her NCAA career alongside Tara. She reflected, “These four years, they say they go by fast, and you don’t believe them and it really does. I feel like a freshman, I feel like I’m still a kid, I’m a kid at heart.” Continuing about her relationship with the head coach, Brink said, “I’m really gonna miss being coached by you. Even though I know you’re gonna be in my corner for the rest of my life.”

According to the No. 22 Cardinal, Tara is the best for a reason as she believes no one works harder than Derveer. She also gave a shout-out to the entire coaching staff for giving her the best college basketball experience. The 2× Pac-12 Player of the Year also talked about her friendship with the team.

Cameron Brink and Jump bid farewell to the NCAA

Hannah Jump, the 5th-year guard for the Cardinals, had been an essential part of the roster since her entry. With her unexpected deep shots and creative thinking on the floor, the Psychology major has always brought greens to Stanford. However, this defeat got the better of her as she broke down during her last interview as a Cardinal.

Reflecting on her journey, she said, “This program means so much to me. It’s been an honor to represent Stanford for the last five years. I’m just so grateful that Tara gave me the opportunity to come back for one more. I wanna continue playing basketball for as long as I can.”
