Angel Reese led LSU Lady Tigers defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes by a decent margin of 102-85 to clinch the NCAA Championship title during April this year. In addition to the players, the win can be attributed to their head coach Kim Mulkey who formed a squad that brought home the biggest championship title at the college level.

Mulkey recently spilled the beans behind her team’s praiseworthy performance during the Championship.

In a recent SEC Tip-off interview, Mulkey shared the secret sauce behind her astounding success. She was quick to divulge about the team’s chemistry that led them to their first title. “Oh, I think it happens on its own. And I think people make a big deal about having too many superstars. Are you kidding me? They want to play with each other. We have seven returners that have a championship ring in that locker room. Six do not. They will challenge each other. They will make each other better.”

Kim Mulkey was appointed LSU head coach in April 2021, taking over the reins from Nikki Fargas. During her first-year stint, Mulkey provided the impetus to help her team reach the second round of the NCAA Championship.

On her way to bettering her time, as per Fan Nation, Mulkey then recruited transfers from different colleges, namely Maryland’s Angel Reese, Ohio’s Kateri Poole, Missouri’s LaDazhia Williams, West Virginia’s Jasmine Carson, and Northwest Florida’s Last-Tear Poa.

With a formidable team, the LSU then decimated the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Finals to take home their first NCAA Championship Title. This game marked a record-high scoring in women’s college basketball. With this victory, Mulkey became the first women’s coach to win titles with two different colleges. The rivalry was so fierce and featured so many stars that almost a record 9.9 million people tuned in to watch the contest.
