The Iowa Hawkeyes are on the top of their game. After Caitlin Clark took over her deserved Big Ten MVP, the Hawkeyes now upended the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a 94-89 margin in the Big Ten championship to take over the Championship title for the third time in a row. The neck-to-neck competition was a thriller that ran into overtime but had Clark & Co. ultimately triumphing against all odds. Following the much-anticipated match, Clark reflected on bagging the three-peat which is accompanied by the tradition of cutting the net. Her reply gave all fans a glimpse of her steely resolve.

You know, those are the moments you live for…And if this is my last time playing in a Big 10 game between two Big 10 teams then what better way to end it all. I mean, you know. you have the overtime you have the… we fight back bad shooting, good shooting, defensive stops – it just really had it all on the biggest stage and can’t be happier for our group and you know this was the only way we could end it. It never gets old cutting any net um you know I feel like we’re we’re pretty good at that now and you know hopefully we get to do it a few more times here coming up in… in late March,” Clark stated.

Clark potted a game high 34 points in a narrow victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Though she had a slow start in the beginning, she Clark topped that up with a brilliant execution towards the end. The Des-Moines born also had 12 assists and 7 rebounds in the match.

Leading from the front, she was well-supported by her teammates in a match that had a lot of to and fro between both teams. Running into overtime, the Hawkeyes dominated during clutch moments and that turned the tides in their favor. The Hawkeyes have now got the ticket to the March Madness 2024. The upcoming games will see them battle against top-tier teams much like they did last year.

Caitlin Clark’s previous bout with the March Madness

Since this is Clark’s last season in the college basketball circuit, fans will be hoping the NCAA star will add another feather in her already glorious cap. The last year, the Hawkeyes had advanced to the Finals only to be defeated by the Lady Tigers. This year might be different.

Last year, the Hawkeyes defeated strong teams namely – the Louisville Cardinals and the South Carolina Gamecocks to advance to the Finals. While their victory against the Cardinals was comprehensive, the Lisa Bluder-coached team edged past the Gamecocks by a 77-73 margin only to be defeated by the LSU in the Finals.

While the history of winning the Big Ten has repeated itself, it will be interesting to see if the upcoming events to follow the last year’s path.
