The big news just might be on the way! Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan Anthony excited the fans when he shortlisted six schools to take the next step in his basketball journey. However, what stood out for fans was that Kiyan, while visiting Melo’s alma mater Syracuse, posed with the program’s jersey along with his father and the coach. Hence, many were sure that Kiyan would be choosing the Orange. But as of now, Kiyan remains undecided and has screened his list down to three schools, while deciding on a date to reveal his final decision.

On Tuesday, Kiyan spoke to NBA draft analyst Krysten Peek about the process of what goes into selecting a program and the time he would take to do so. As of now, he has narrowed down his list to three schools: Syracuse, USC, and Auburn.

“Well, I am actually real close to making a decision. I am looking to commit in the first two weeks of November. That’s right on the corner… What coaches believe in hitting me up like you know.. what place I could fit in, who’s there in my position. And what they are telling me like where they could see me fitting now and I feel like that could really go into the factor for me coming into school and also like the history they have and what it is: being good in the past few years… I think that’s what goes into it,” Kiyan revealed.

As per reports, Kiyan was previously looking at Auburn, Rutgers, USC, Syracuse, Florida State, and Ohio State. The four-star recruit was keen on taking trips to USC on September 24 and Rutgers on October 4. Post that, as per 247Sports, Kiyan wanted to take a second official trip to Ohio State, Auburn, and Syracuse. Going by his recent statement, it can be adjudged that he is done with his visits and now wants to choose from among Syracuse, USC, and Auburn for the class of 2025.

Previously, he had shared that he would reveal his decision in the “last week of October or first week of November.” But his recent statements show he is having second thoughts. Talking about his recruitment process and the schedule for the official visits, he had divulged in September that on the first day, he might “eat with the coaches, be with your family, chill.”

Then the officials take him on a tour of the campus before allowing him to watch a football or a basketball game. And finally, he is given permission to watch the basketball team in practice and also “take pictures in a little uniform.” Sure, it appears tempting to all to have an official visit, but even the current reports hint that he might go ahead with Syracuse.

Kiyan Anthony might choose Syracuse over other colleges

Although Melo stayed with Syracuse for only one season in 2003, he led them to the National Championship. Hence, Kiyan would be keen to continue his father’s legacy. The other reason for Kiyan to decide in their favor is that he has been offered a scholarship for his potential rather than being Melo’s son, which clearly proves that the head coach Adrian Autry has taken much time to evaluate his skills, a pre-requisite for any baller.

Next, Kiyan, in one of his interviews, also divulged about no pressure from his family as they “want me to go somewhere that fits me.” Taking into consideration that Melo was with the Orange, that might match his need for “a family oriented school with not too much going on.” He had further enumerated that he “like(s) the atmosphere, I like the family environment” at the Orange. Plus Autry’s communication with him also makes the case heavier for him to be with Syracuse.

The young talent in another interview, acknowledged or rather lauded that “Syracuse has a young core on the team now.” And the efforts put in by Red were impeccable. “The team is switching to Coach (Adrian) Autry’s identity, switching from the zone to man to man. They’re still recruiting hard, trying to put together the 2024 and the 2025 classes,” the No. 6 shooting guard in the country had enunciated.

Therefore, according to fans, it’s only time that he commits to the Orange. And perhaps, take over his father’s legacy, helping them clinch their second National Championship title.
