Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan Anthony, has attracted a lot of limelight for his potential commitment. It took him only two months to cut short his list to half from 6 after he finally found the best places in USC, Auburn, and Syracuse. Despite that, it isn’t known which team he would commit to as he postponed his date of announcing his decision from October last week to November now. Hence, when he appeared on Angel Reese’s Unapologetically Angel podcast on Thursday, he divulged what goes into choosing a college, which might hint at his decision.
“Just like what coaches been on me the latest and where I could go in right away. And you know, see growth, and where I could develop my game, and just try to win like whatever the coaches tell me. Like they can see me playing where my role is all of that goes into. Like, you know, where I choose. So I still got a couple weeks to decide, decide, but it’s getting close… It’s no pressure but I feel it, though. I can hear it. I can hear everybody talk about it. Everybody talking, everybody want to know where Kiyan going,” Anthony stated when Reese asked, “what’s going to be the deciding factor for you?”
Melo’s son is currently undecided about three choices: USC, Auburn, and Syracuse. Auburn needs him for his exceptional offensive skills. Charles Barkley had recently praised the head coach, Bruce Pearl, for developing the players and leading them into the NCAA tournament for years. He also pointed out that “a few of my guys go there like Jahki [Howard] and Tahaad [Pettiford] and they talk highly of the program.” Therefore, Auburn will be lifted to another level if Kiyan joins them.

At the same time, he has an emotional connection with Syracuse. His father played for the Orange from 2002-03 before he was picked as the third overall pick by the Nuggets. Therefore, Kiyan might go with his father’s choice, although it is reported that Melo won’t influence his son’s decision. Furthermore, Kiyan had divulged, “I feel like they’re really building something there and if I were to go there I could be a part of that.” Plus, he also has a reason to commit to USC.

According to Kiyan, the Trojans under Eric Musselman “gets players drafted and in the lottery. They also produce players of my archetype and get them to the league.” Therefore, chances are that he might commit to USC since they can provide him a stepping stone to the NBA. Hence, he will have to apply the deciding factors he revealed to Reese. Meanwhile, Kiyan also revealed the factors that go into making a decision while speaking to Krysten Peek.
Kiyan Anthony talks basketball while choosing a college
Kiyan shared that he had postponed the date to November’s second week while short-listing three colleges. According to Kiyan, the first day when visiting a college goes by, “eat(ing) with the coaches, be(ing) with your family, chill.” Then, they show the recruits a football or basketball game. Finally, when that’s done, the recruits also pose with jerseys. Hence, after doing such practices with the three colleges he shortlisted, Kiyan decided to share his take.

Well, I am actually real close to making a decision. I am looking to commit in the first two weeks of November. That’s right on the corner… What coaches believe in hitting me up like you know.. what place I could fit in, who’s there in my position. And what they are telling me like where they could see me fitting now and I feel like that could really go into the factor for me coming into school and also like the history they have and what it is: being good in the past few years… I think that’s what goes into it,” Kiyan revealed.
Hopefully, Kiyan will soon be able to make a decision. And surely it is going to be a big day since it will decide his future steps.
