The stepping stone towards a successful title defense wasn’t a walk in the park for the Lady Tigers. They received a major reality check at the hands of the No.20 seed Colorado Buffaloes. Apparently, Angel Reese and Co. are the first defending champions in 28 years to lose their season opener. Subsequently, the Tigers’ boss Kim Mulkey has spared some inputs of her own describing the disappointing outing. She has come on heavily showing her dissatisfaction with the individual performances.

Mulkey said, “I am disappointed and surprised in some individual players that I thought would just be tougher. You live with poor shooting, you live with a tough night offensively. What I don’t live with is just guts and fight and physical play. I just didn’t think we had that tonight.”

The Tigers looked out of sorts throughout and the coordination between them was missing. Moreover, they had no answers for the intensity and hunger shown by the Lady Buffs. However, Mulkey had some positive insights that she shared in the end. She said, “This is not going to devastate us. Chicken Little said the sun would come out tomorrow, didn’t he? Those things I described are fixable, But I don’t know how long it’s going to take to fix it.”

Kim Mulkey had some tough advice for the 2023 Final Four MVP Angel Reese as well. Evidently, Bayou Barbie’s leadership didn’t please her very much in Vegas.

Angel Reese receives some stern words from the boss

Before the start of their campaign, the Tigers’ head coach Kim Mulkey expressed her ease with leading such a star-studded team. Anyhow, after their humiliating loss, this statement has come back to haunt her. A lot of expectations were rested on the shoulders of the Tigers’ kingpin Angel Reese. Unfortunately, she was unable to lead by example throughout the night.

Opening up about Reese, Mulkey said, “She just understands the spotlight is on her. I don’t think she realized how quickly it came in or how hard it came at her. But as I tell her, to whom much is given much as expected. You brought this, you earned this. You wanted this, now grow up and lead us.”
