The coach is back at it again. Kim Mulkey and the Lady Tigers have been undefeated so far. With a 9-0 streak, LSU is at the top of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). With every passing game, it’s time for Mulkey to clash with the Cardinals. And the opponents are no less either. Although losing to Indiana in a 79-66 clash, the Cardinals are on a good 7-1 run. However, the Hall of Famer coach believes not everything is strong about their show.

After, comfortably defeating NC Central 131-44, Mulkey came out in the post-game conference to talk about her upcoming clash with the Standford. She stated, “I couldn’t give you a detailed report on them, I have seen them play, and I know a few of their players, obviously we know that Tara (VanDerveer) is not there anymore, what a tradition, what a program they have and it’s going to be exciting.”

Mulkey then subtly took a dig at a major flaw that the Cardinals are facing at the moment. “I don’t think they’re as big in the paint as they have been in the past, but we’ve got our hands full with them and that’ll be our focus for the next three days.” LSU will host Standford on December 5 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC).

With the retirement of legendary coach Tara VanDerveer earlier in April this year, the leap of Cameron Brink towards the WNBA, and Kiki Iriafen’s move to USC, Mulkey speculates a possible flaw in the team in the restricted area as the team is undergoing a transition phase.

LSU and Standford’s performances this season so far

The 2023 champions have started the season on a high registering a 9-0 streak, while their rebounding stats are something to take note of this season. LSU stands as the No. 2 team in terms of rebounds per game surpassing the likes of the South Carolina Gamecocks, the reigning champions who have always had a dominating presence in the paint and are currently at No. 8.

With a total of 467 rebounds and 51.89 RPG in just 9 games, it’s no doubt to see LSU flourishing. Along with that, the Baton Rouge-based program stands second overall in shooting stats accumulating 93.9 points per game.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kim Mulkey's Lady Tigers maintain their dominance, or will Stanford's new era pose a real threat?

Standford Cardinals have also had a great start to their 2024-25 campaign. With the legendary coach turning in the reins, the Cardinals kicked off the season on a high note, defeating Le Moyne Dolphins 107-43 on the debut night of Kate Paye, their new head coach.

Although not in the top ten yet for their offense, the Cardinals are still managing 81.5 ppg and 9.6 three-pointers made in 8 eight games so far while LSU is nowhere to be seen in the top-25 for their deep shots.

With the LSU Tigers looking to register their 10th win on the trot, Standford’s new coach Paye would like to take this opportunity and show that their program is as strong as ever even under a new leadership. Certainly, even if Mulkey does not believe they are just as strong.
