Problems don’t seem to end for Bill Self and the Jayhawks. After uncertainty over Hunter Dickinson’s participation in the upcoming March Madness, Kansas faces another tricky situation. Apparently, shooting guard Kevin McCullar Jr. will be out of action from the March Madness due to his knee injury.
This unfortunate development was made official by head coach Bill Self in a statement. Following this, the 23-year-old reflected on the unfortunate end of his college basketball career.
The 6 ft 7 in athlete took to X recently to share the tragic announcement of an end to his NCAA career. He posted a picture in which he wrote, “In regard to me not playing in March Madness, if I could play, I would. I am more devastated than anyone, knowing that I can’t play and compete alongside my team and that my college career has come to an end.” In addition to this, he also talked about his valiant efforts in trying to get back onto the court. He further added, “I have done everything that I possibly could have done to get back playing at a high level to help my team.”

Further, there were some details of his activities during his rehabilitation time when he was not playing. It read, “This included 6-7 hours a day with the training staff at Kansas for over a month now, while not participating in practice but competing in games. While trying various treatment options, it’s simply not where it needs to be to play the game.”

In the absence of Kevin McCullar Jr and Hunter Dickinson, the Jayhawks will have an uphill task on their March Madness road.

How is the journey for the Jayhawks without Kevin McCullar Jr.?
While their opening round against Samford(13) in Salt Lake City might come easy, their subsequent clash against Gonzaga will be an evenly matched contest. A win will ensure their ticket to Sweet 16 where they will have a daunting task waiting in the form of Zach Edey and his Boilermakers. If the Lady Luck stands with them, and they go past Purdue their Elite 8 will feature either Tennessee(2) or Creighton(3).
The absence of these two players has been catastrophic for the Jayhawks. Evidently, heavy defeats against Houston (46-76) and Cincinnati (52-72) provide further proof of their vulnerabilities. Anyhow, fans will still hope for the best and expect them to defy all odds. Only time will tell what the future holds for them.
