JuJu Watkins is now getting used to making history! While she continues to break records, a lot of them have come at the expense of the NCAA’s All-Time Leading Scorer Caitlin Clark. On Tuesday, the USC sophomore not only set a personal record but also broke the program mark against the California Baptist Lancers, who are still looking for their first win this season.
Setting a new USC record for the most three-pointers made in a single game is just one of her many accomplishments. The USC star scored 40 points against California on 12/18 shooting from the field and 9/11 from the three-point range, showcasing remarkable efficiency. So how does Clark come into the picture here?
The former Iowa star had four collegiate games where she made 9 threes, but her shooting volume was much higher, with at least 14 attempts in each of these performances. Now that Watkins has matched CC’s career-high for three made in a game, she has done so in a more efficient manner. And this is just another instance of the sophomore guard outshining the Hawkeyes icon.

Clark had reached 1000 career points in 40 games, by far the quickest this century. However, JuJu surpassed that feat by reaching the 1000-point mark in just 38 games. And the list of her achievements could go on.

With her 3-point record, Watkins is also close to the men’s basketball record of 10 in a single game. The USC star is keeping up well with Clark and might soon surpass her in other records as well. Understandably, the comparisons between the two won’t end anytime soon. But more importantly, can she achieve what the Trojans have been looking for over the past decade?

Can JuJu Watkins Break USC’s Drought and Secure a Championship?
Before JuJu’s arrival, the USC women’s team hadn’t won an NCAA tournament game since 2006. In both 2014 and 2023, they were defeated in the first round. While her arrival pushed the Trojans to their first Elite Eight appearance in 30 years, the program is still looking for its first championship since going back-to-back in 1983 and 94.
She had several enticing offers such as from Stanford and South Carolina. However, Watkins’ decision was to lift her hometown school. She has already reinvigorated the fan base, with packed arenas creating an electric atmosphere at USC games.

Representing the USA at the youth level, she is a two-time gold medallist. In her debut game, JuJu dropped 32 points and has continued her excellence in every game since then. Watkins led the team to a 29-6 overall record in the Pac-12 last year.
Not to mention, she is surrounded by talented players like Kiki Iriafen, Rian Forestier, Kayleigh Heckel, and more. She is averaging 23.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game this season. The only issue is her injuries. If she can stay healthy, JuJu can deliver more power to her game, which shows new hope for the Trojans as they aim for a championship.
