Sunday morning won’t be as bright as Stanford’s fans would have liked. Just as they were coming to terms with the departure of Cameron Brink and the Hall of Famer coach Tara VanDerveer from their basketball program, the transfer of their best player this past season Kiki Iriafen now dealt a major blow to their championship aspirations.
Although, this comes not as a surprise because earlier this month, the McDonald’s All-American decided to enter the transfer portal. The enthralling part of this development is that fans get to see her play alongside USC’s sensation JuJu Watkins.
The 6-foot-3 forward is coming home. After three illustrious seasons with the Cardinals, Iriafen will now don a Trojan jersey as she makes her way to Los Angeles. One of the projected lottery picks in the 2025 WNBA draft, Kiki’s decision to leave Stanford was just after Tara VanDerveer’s retirement. The Pac-12’s most improved player will be a part of a locker room that has the likes of senior center Rayah Marshall, incoming freshman Kennedy Smith, and national freshman of the year JuJu Watkins.
