Tyson is a player from California who was born in Texas. He is 6’5.5 feet tall and weighs around 98 kg which attests to an athletic physique by BMI value. The features also offer him a perfect opportunity to play both the shooting guard and the small forward.

His offensive skills are quick and agile but he is known to perform unnecessary turnovers which arrives as a weakness. As for his defense, his skills read an average. So Tyson would suit a team primarily looking to have him as a shooter. This could also present a curious factor in the opportunity he receives in the role after averaging 46.5 FG% in college.

Other than that, he is good as a passer too, and can serve as a connector between layups. Plus he has the versatility needed as an offensive player to fit in any team. He can move the ball both ways and can run with ease from coast to coast. Therefore he can be utilized while making transitional offenses. But as mentioned before what Tyson lacks is his defensive skills. But can he make amends now? A look at his number will give a view of his playing style.

Jaylon Tyson Stats

Tyson started off his career with the Texas. But had to switch only after playing 8 games. His highest came in his debut game against the Houston Christian Huskies when he dropped 11 points. But for the remained part of the season, he didn’t feature in any prominent role. It might have been this compatibility with the team that prompted him to make a switch to Texas Tech.

It is noteworthy here that Tyson had previously committed to the Texas Tech in high school before switching his allegiance. The circumstances forced him to go with his previous team and there he played 31 games. During his sophomore year, Tyson played a core role in the offense. He scored 19 points against the Baylor Bears twice in that season. Additionally, he also helped with 12 and 10 rebounds in both games.

He then also thrashed 27 points against the West Virginia Mountaineers. His best rebound performance of 14 points came against the Texas Longhorns. However, due to some discrimination issues, he took a transfer to the California Golden Bears.

With the Golden Bears, his consistency improved considerably as he took center stage. He would go on his 20-point rampages multiple times with his highest of 30 points against the Colorado Buffaloes and the Washington State Cougars.

Here he also developed as an assist maker and supported with 8 assists against the Stanford Cardinal. He currently stands with an average of 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 46.5% FG. The Golden Bears was a stepping stone for Tyson from where he could display his range of talent for the NBA draft.

And his numbers prove that he can uplift his defense with time. But how do the teams see him? Here’s a look at his NBA Combine draft numbers.
